I miss Brandon Hardin, sure hope next year he picks up where he left off.
I could see him being an option backing the line as well.

I was looking forward to him, but honestly can't say I miss him. He really never had a chance to do anything to be missed for....

We put McC at LB then it's how many years to retrain? How many years kept there if he doesn't work out? (see Hester). Then it's draft another DE on that side of the ball possibly at the expense what other position-the o line?
I see Hardin as a DB. He seems brittle now, I can't imagine him at a position where he would get battered more.
If the rest of the season is futile then experiment and try out McC and others and different spots. Might as well make the best use of the time then. And for god's sake don't leave the starters in a futile game. That is how BU got hurt in the first place.

While I agree w/JABF that w/the mad scientist non sense, Shea was a OLB in college, he played both I know, but most had him as a OLB in a 3-4.
I don't see him as a 4-3 DE at all, he gets either eaten up or washed out and cannot defend the run.
He's really not even being used as such as much any more; they are pulling him back into coverage and blitzing someone else.
I see him as a 3-4 OLB where he can use his speed and instincts w/out having to worry about someone reaching out and grabbing him from Hike. But I don't see why he couldn't play SAM or MLB. He's quick and has the "high motor" to get to the ball.

Exactly my point although we all wanted to believe he was a DE at Boise the fact is he was a 70 LB (3-4 outside LB)
This is why I've not always thought MLB as much as maybe an olb, IMHO it's an easier conversion from 70 to 50 than 70 to 7
The fact is he didn't fit our system but we drafted him because we were hellbent on a pass rusher at 19. So either way it's a conversion and if you watch closely they have him in more of a LB role when he's in than a DE. Case in point was they had him spying Wilson.
But bottom line: we do not have a 70 LB he played at Boise in our system. If we ran a 3-4 we would have a good player, but as of now we dont. So the 2 possible conversions are to a 50/40 or a 7 (or as some say a 00/10)
I do not have any preference but just don't want my fears of a wasted first rounder (again) come true. So this will be up to the coaches (oh god have mercy) to figure out QUICKLY where he fits. Personally I see more upside as a LB for him (50/40) I feel that he may always struggle with engaging and defeating blocks in the run game as well as pass as a 7. From what I've seen lately his play looks more of a LB.
I still have the conspiracy theory emery will go after a 3-4 coach if lovie dosent make it.

I didn't remember that he had the LB experience, but now that you mention it, I remember the day we drafted him, this was talked about. So maybe it's not a situation of playing him in a completely different position. Good point.

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

At this point in the season, whether he played LB in college or not, it WOULD BE a mad scientist move, especially in a cover 2 defense.

Sorry, I was thinking about next year; I would not do anything w/Shea this year.

In lovie system he is a situational pass rusher no more. I compare him most to Mark Anderson. In a 3-4 he would excell and not look like a waste as a pass rushing lb. Mark Anderson was gang busters as a pass rushing lb for NE and now has disapeared as a DE for buffalo. But seeing as we arent switching defenses any time soon he isnt the answer people are looking for to replace Urlacher.

motown, to be fair, no one is the answer to replace a probable HoF MLB for chicago w/out having either an absurdly deep LB draft, or having a horrible year, getting a mid top 10 pick, AND having a great MLB in the draft that year. It's quite likely we will not have a great MLB for awhile.
