Well, we'll see. It will be interesting how it unfolds. I just don't think he would have to "force the issue". I think that as a new GM he has their blessing at this point to make the changes he feels he needs to make. You don't bring in a new guy and then tie his hands. You might do it upon entry as a temporary condition (as they did here), but George is a smarter manager than that.
I think it will come down to how much of what is happening he feels is bad and how much of the bad he attributes to Lovie. No one can say but him at this point. Just my opinion.

If Emery pushed hard, Lovie would be gone. However, it's not going to happen. When's the last time a NFL coached survived two GMs?
I don't see Emery forcing the issue, even if he wanted to. He will support Lovie's extension, while he quietly builds this team the way he wants. I think Emery knows that he will, in all likelihood, outlast Lovie regardless.

I hope you are correct. George may be the best one yet, and I believe Emery was a good hire. Time will tell, but Phil has a solid career and good pedigree.

This.
After this season, if the team gives Lovie a contract extension, then this is a lucrative OC job that can attract a "real" OC. Now that we have Cutler, B.Marsh, Alshon & Forte (and Emery can commit to putting a stud oline out there) - and we have a perennial solid defense & ST's - we can get a MUCH better OC than Bates who has 1 season as OC and was promptly fired.
I'm sick of bad OC's here. Let's get it right for once. Bring in a stud.

It is going to be interesting to see happens regarding OC next year. The wrench in the machine if we change OC is Cutler. A new coordinator will probably want his own guys in here, and may not keep Bates. We all know how Cutler feels about Bates. It's like Marshall is his blankie, and Bates is his pacifier. He'll throw a fit without either of those two now that they're reunited.

let the season finish first before we think about this

Maybe discussed before but what about norv for an oc? Don't they run a similar offense?

hiring coaches has been Lovies responsibility - even under Angelo. Any issues with who has been hired, their performance and logevity can be laid at his feet. Given his past record at bringing in an OC that the organization needs, I'm not sure that he can do this. I guess given enough time, he can cycle through them all and eventually get the right one, but I'm thinking that may be his only chance. Obviously whatever criteria he uses has not been working.

I almost have to face him a pass on Martz and Tice. Both hires were made in a make or break, win or you're fires year and options were non existent. No one wanted to take a job that had no job security, and I can not blame those OC wannabes. Honestly think that Martz or Tice were their first choices?! I certainly don't.

2 scenerio's:
1) after starting 7-1 we miss the playoffs, this time no excuses b/c we didn't lose Cutler/Forte. Although a series of injuries did happenn, they were no to key players, I think the team moves on from Lovie.
2) make the playoffs but an early exit. the team will "review" the season and 1 of 2 things will happen:
a) the team will say Lovie had the team in position but the lack of depth from the previous GM hampered him again.
b) the team will say Lovie was unable to beat a single playoff team and it's time to move on to find someone that can 1) beat greenbay(which Lovie has struggled the last 2 years) and 2) beat the top teams in the NFL.
