Pretty sure JJ was coming on strong at the end of the year, last year. McClellin does not look like a home run to me. Liability in the run and not a star in the pass rush. Poor pick for the first round.

JJ Watt, had 5.5 sacks, 48 solo tackles, 56 combined, 2 fmbl recov's, 4 pass deflections, 9 stuffs, and 1 blocked kick his rookie year. Not too shabby.

Said it on draft day and every day sinse... Horrible, wasted pick for a top 20 guy he has no place in the 4-3 although I think he would have been an okay late first early 2nd for a 3-4 team

"Liability" dosent say it for the run more like useless against the run

And not a real threat in the pass game either unless he dosent get touched because once engaged he's pretty much done for

Dude has 7 combined tackles, 6 solos....SIX!!! 3 sacks, not bad but considering his whole job is to be a pass rusher I consider that a bit on the low side; and he's got 0 passes deflected, and only 2 stuffs. This guys "high motor" is offset by his "light chasse" and any blockade makes his speed usless, as a DE. the 0 PD's shows you that he's getting out of position or washed out of the plays he's in.

I said it when he was drafted it was a reach, and when I heard Emery's reasoning and how happy he was about him playing OLB in that college game so his "secret was safe" it screamed JA smarter then everyone in the room logic.

I hope he hits the weight room in the offseason and he prove's me wrong, but so far he's not disproved any of the issues I thought he'd have.

I just still not sure what position he will end up with and I'm not sure what people expected from him. He is a rookie and we all knew that Peppers and Izzy will be our starters

A top 20 guy with one job an as many opportunities as he gets has to be better, goes back to my original point sinse April he doesn't belong in the 4-3 has no ability to defeat a block whatsoever

German, Izzy was not the expected starter after the 1st day of the draft, Emery stated that Shea would get an oppertunity to compete for that job, it wasn't until after the OTA's that Shea was considered a backup/situational player.

Hindsight is always 20-20, but I do have to agree with Ric on this one. I'm not giving up on Shea becoming a true 3-down DE but thus far he's been only a situational pass rusher and a liability in run defense. This offseason he definitely needs to add weight/power and improve his game. Based on what we have seen thus far, he does look like a reach pick right now at #19, hate to say it.

Chandler Jones would have been the better choice as a 4-3 base DE and DeCastro would have the better pick to bolster the OL.

I'm w/Ric in the impact dept. This guy is a heck of an expensive utility/specialty guy. I hope he beefs up and trains like Watt as there's got to be more out of him. I feel he's in limbo b/c of Lovie's situation and how the next regime would handle him. I hope they have a good estimation on his ceiling otherwise they should cut bait w/him while his value potential is still high.

Really hoping that wasn't JA smartest guy in the room logic as well. Perhaps he can come on these last few games.

SFB -- I am thinking quite the opposite will happen with him. This is Emerys boy. Rather than cut bait with him, if he brings in a new coach, I'm pretty sure that he will be expected to try and coach up Emery's #1 pick. I think we can get much more out of Shea whether Lovie stays or he doesn't. He may not be the dynamic player we all hoped for, but I think he still has a bunch of upside. At least I hope so.
