I know it was, but I thought that was either reversed, or is being fought. Also, he has strong ties in Dallas, who is also looking to go, also, why would you leave the Saints for Chicago?

and he has ties in Dallas b/c he was the OC there and many thought the future HC before he was drawn away by NO.
I can see him going to big D but I'm sure he'll be hyped up by the media here. Feels like this team is drowning and will grab on to just about anyone with a headset right now. IMO I'd say no to S.P.
I think Lovie needs to go, but I am not for bringing in another mid-talent person. I don't think that Payton is a top tier coaching talent.
Not sure if he's top tier, but he's better then Lovie. He did help build a SB caliber team w/one of the worst franchises in the league; that speaks volumes.
Ric - not saying he's not better than Lovie, just don't want to be talking about replacing the HC again in 3 years. It's more about not being sure about Payton more than anything else. But I can't say I'm sure about anyone else either.
Well, I think he has stronger ties to Chicago than he does Dallas. He grew up watching the Bears as a resident of Naperville and played for Naperville Central High. For All I know, his whole family still lives in the Chicago area. He played his college ball at Eastern Illinois University and if I'm not mistaken, he coached for the U of I for a short time. He also played for the Bears as a replacement player during the strike year and knows Ditka. It's my understanding that the two remain good friends.Quote:

I really don't like what he did, but I don't really like how Cutler acted to get to Chicago or how Brandon Marshall acted before he came to Chicago, but I'm sure glad we got them. I still say pass. Is he a good coach? Yes. Is he better than Lovie? Yes, he is one of the few active coaching candidates who are better than Lovie. But I still do not want him. He is a dirty coach, and I do not want the team I root for associated with a dirty coach.
Do not tell me he was not involved in the bounty gate scandal. He was the head coach, and the head coach knows everything that goes on with his team. If he comes here, the Bears will now be potential suspects for a bounty program, and I do not think this team needs that distraction. Let me compare this with a college coach for a minute. You know which ones I am talking about. The ones who break the rules and pay the players to go there. Do the coaches always know what is going on? Possibly no, but they are the ones most associated with it, and that stigma follows them their whole careers and the teams they go to are always going to be under suspicion.
And, yes, I know that just because he did it there, does not mean he will do it here...... but there will always be a question. Why? Because he has been guilty of such things in the past.
He is a coach that, while being an offensive minded coach, was in charge of dirty players. He had a hand in teaching said players to deliver dirty hits. Was he teaching them directly? No, that would be the DC. But again, he knew. He had no problem with it.
Again, great coach, but I do not want a man coaching the Chicago Bears who will allow dirty play and shrug it off. In my mind, while the coaching talent is vastly different, he is no better than that asshat Schwartz up in Detroit
It's interesting because regardless of who the HC is... the front office will seemingly never let this team stray from its defensive roots (which is fine with me). Emery is still going to built a team fit for Chicago's style of play, but it'd be intersting to see what a coach that knows what he's doing on offense could do here with this group of guys. If we had a HC that was more offense oriented, the front office might give him more to work with too...
I'd say the chances of him ending up here are slim to none... and closer to none than slim.
