Yeah just saw that... so much for a minor calf strain... he kicked XPs didn't he?

Yeah he did. It must've been worse than originally thought.

he cost me my 2nd ff pay league. Lost by 4 points, and had Gould as my kicker....
this is like a colmination of the lovie smith era, everything falls apart at the end.

Actually all the injuries are what might save his ass for one more year. That and the fact that the Bears won't want to eat $5.5 mil AND probably spend close to that to bring in a top level coach from elsewhere. Personally I'd give Dave Toub a shot at it but I'm sure that won't happen.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Well from everything being rumored it sounds like the call is going to be Emery's to make, that the Mc's are not going to make the call one way or another.
I hope they don't use the inj's as an excuse; Hou last year and GB this year have not struggled the way Chi has the last two years b/c of inj. And that is not just on Angelo, some of that falls on Lovie also.

Still not understanding all the Toub love at all. Can someone explain it to me?
He can't keep this teams special teams together anymore... you can blame it on rule changes and Hester all you want, but what does that show? That he can't adapt? What makes anyone think he is gonna make an impact coaching a team in two games? Or are we suggesting letting him try and HC for an entire season, just to, you know, see what happens?

AT, it also has to do w/Lovie constantly letting the best ST players walk, and not placing any importance on getting good ST players to backfill.

All Soul is suggesting (knowing that it likely won't happen anyway), is canning Lovie and Tice -- which looks likely to happen anyway -- after this weekend and installing Toub & Bates in their place as interims for the last 2 weeks to see if there's anything there for a possible permanent elevation. I do think we are going to lose to Green Bay and lose badly (27-10?) and that should be Lovie's deathknell. His last chance to beat the key division rival he promised to and his last chance to show that he can win against a "good team". I predict failure yet again though I agree the pink slip won't officially come until Januaray.

If we get a new head coach, I'd hope we'd get somebody more qualified than Toub. Toub is a good special teams coach, and I'm not dissing the guy at all. But there are a number of better, more qualified people to hand over the HC job to. Whomever gets the HC job, will be here for awhile. Years. So let's not hand the reigns over to Dave Toub when we can get a REAL head coach.
The Chicago Bears job would attract some high-powered candidates. I'm not a big proponent of making our QB coach our OC either. Nothing against Bates. But his only claim to fame is 1 season as OC of Seattle - where he was promptly fired after one season. Guys, we can do better. Why are we always so eager to "settle" on mediocre coaches and mediocre players here?
MEDIOCRE COACHES + MEDIOCRE TALENT = MEDIOCRE SEASONS
Algebraically it's: MC + MT = MS
And we've had too many of those MS seasons over the past 50+ years. Let's do better this time around.
We all wonder "why" the teams and seasons end up disappointing us. At some point you need to wake up and realize that EXCELLENCE requires high caliber coaches and players. The best. I don't see Dave Toub and Bates as the best options. We can do better. We should do better.
