You got me picturing something like this...
My only comment about the 3D helmet, is this statement: they’re intended for single-impact use, even though their unique design could likely survive multiple low speed events And low speed is less than 9 mph? You've got two guys running full speed at each other, that could be up to say 20-25 mph each for an impact speed of 40 mph or more.
Unless they can develop these to withstand at least 50 impacts and still be effective, I don't think Virginia's going to be spending $700 bucks a helmet for each player on each play. Plus, you think TV timeouts are bad, wait till we have 22 players changing helmets every play.
But I agree, something needs to be done, and this helmet looks like a good start. It just has a long way to go to be useful.

I think they can go composite carbon fiber or some graphene polymer composite. The elephant in the room is that someday they will start plugging is to take away the contact like that away altogether. First they will mention the head trauma, then micro-trauma, then they will say how good it will be to keep leg and other injuries down to a minimum. It's one of those don't say it won't happen because it's already incrementally creeping.
Get your flags out, the next generation will be needing them.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

Whatever the case ... Cutler should still think about wearing a Mark Kelso pro-cap ( double shelled ) helmet .... till his line is better .

Tice's "Cutler Protection Plan"

When they asked Tice about this apparent problem with his "Cutler Protection Plan" he said not to worry, they'll just run the "Hester Package" until they get the bugs worked out. In the meantime, he's working on his "Tight End Plan" that is supposed to make our TE's into solid receiving tight ends. Stay tuned.

This is an inkling of what the Hester Package is. They will lay the "protection device" on it's side, fully fueled and put Hester inside it. When the time comes, they will light it off and it will blast past the goal line.
Webb is responsible to light it off and the only reason it is taking so long to get this going is that he doesn't always point it towards the right goal line.
Tice: JaMarcus -- what the hell are you doing? You have to blast him past THEIR goal line.
Webb: I know coach. Sorry I get confused. I've got so much to remember. I've almost got tying my shoes down and then I think I can work on the goal line thing better.
Tice: That's ok, It took me a while to get my shoes down too. Sometimes I still get it mixed up and tie them together. It's hard but it will come to you.
