That's easy. Finish with the worst record in a season so you can draft the top QB.
Or, draft a QB later in the first that had all the tools and just needs some polishing. Which means finding a good OC AND a good QB coach.

It's an issue too. But it comes after A and B above. I put that in the C category.
What trips my trigger is not your post at all Ric, because you qualified your post very well (about the oline being an issue too). I get frustrated with people ragging on Cutler, without first recognizing the oline problem. It's the elephant in the room that some folks ignore. It's like people complaining about a car's tires needing replaced with better tires, but the engine of the car is missing. The tires are not the primary problem. We have a car missing the engine, without which the car isn't going anywhere.
Fix the oline. Then sure, go on to upgrading other personnel areas. The upgrading is an ongoing task that never ends. Emery will take care of the other things in a prioritized manner, depending upon need. But right now the critical need is for us to get an offensive line that will allow us to use our skill weapons at full-power. And I recognize the coaching woes are important too (I'm just commenting on the player side of the equation in my post).
That's my only comment.
lol, next? still waiting on the first one...
im not saying hes not tough, but again how u are hurt doesn't change that you were. I dont know how many games ar has been pulled from but i know cutler has at least 2 or 3 times as a bear w/concussion issues.
I was merely responded to someone bringing up ar, no stat sheet shows games pulled, merely games missed.
Im not advocating droppiing cutler, please stop acting like i am. Im saying having a young behind is even a better idea, and there is now discussion about if he is the long term answer(not my opinion) b/c of his innuroes AND his poor performances vs gb.
Ric, I wasn't commenting on your post, but rather the Miller comment in the post (you qualified your comment just fine, that the oline is definitely a problem.......so I'm fine with what you said).
And one more thing regarding Miller's comment, why would we let Cutler walk, in hopes we hit on a QB in the draft? I realize he's saying we'd save money. But I'm so tired of trying to do things on the cheap - and later wondering why things like the J'Marcus Webb thing doesn't result in a great player. At some point you do spend some money - in this case, re-signing Cutler. I do hope we re sign Cutler. We have so many needs and other problems, that why on earth would we worry about saving money at the QB slot now? Let's focus on fixing the oline right now, and we'll get the maximum "bang for the buck" when our entire offense looks better - both running AND passing.
But, anymore I feel like I'm one crazy voice. Like the old man who's yelling at the kids walking on his lawn.
Just fix the oline and don't worry about Jay Cutler now. Just fix the oline.
This was the thing that tripped my trigger Rick, not your comment. And even if we did cut Cutler to save money, there's no guarantee the new kid will be any good. And regarding concussions, unless they fix the oline, he'll just be the new "designated punching bag" and get injured too. To me, I want to scream "It's the oline stupid" it is the oline. I feel like one lone crazy dude about to have a stroke because of comments like Jim Miller here.Quote:
On Monday Jim Miller said he would not extend Cutler if he cannot stay on the field(obviously the OL is the reason he cannot, but still something to think about). He said why pay the kind of money you would have to dole out to Cutler, when he's not staying on the field, if you can draft a guy for a quarter of that and get similar results (pointing to this years rookie class).
The QB position isn't our problem. IT IS THE OLINE.
