I think he has danced between the raindrops. JA had not given him very much talent to work with. So when Lovie just kept hitting each year looking just good enough, people pointed at JA as the sole cause. JA was let go and we got a serious injection of offensive WR talent. The W-L ratio did not change. Now the spotlight has finally fallen on Lovie. There are serious question surronding Lovie as far as his ability to get the team motivated (I don't understand how the team can not get fired up with him going crazy on the sidelines -- seiously even Landry who was as controlled as I can remember used to have emotional outbursts when needed. Lovie only has various levels of sleep).
There are questions as to his staff being able to bring players along, being able to come up with creative schemes and out-think opposing coaches during game time adjustments. Pretty much all of those functions are HC functions, and I'm not sure which ones he does well. The only place where I think he excels is that people really like him. Maybe he is TOO likeable. Coughlin is a jerk, but the man has his players prepared. Maybe Lovie is just not the kind of guy that get after a guy. He may just be tooo nice. I'm not sure. All I know is other than winning popularity contests, he seems to have problems winning anything else.

Yeah - I agree, even with all the issues we have, we are nowhere close to needing a complete rebuild -- unless we totally change schemes and it requires a wholesale change of players. I am completely against doing that. The only place I see a need for a complete rebuild is in the coaching ranks. There is only one -- maybe two I would keep.

You have a franchise QB, Cutler(30), a top RB, Forte(27), with a good backup,Bush(28), a top WR, Marshall(28), another developing WR, Jeffery(22), a solid slot guy in Bennett(25). Outside of Cutler are all signed through 2014. Webb(24) seems to have shown enough that he is a capable LT in the NFL. Louis(27), is a starter.
On D you have Wootten(25), Paea(24), McClellin(23), Melton(26), Collins(25) he's flashed, Wright(24), Conte(23).
So do we really have a major rebuilding process?
Obviously we have older guys like Briggs, Lach, Peppers, Tillman, Garza, etc.
There are quite a few pieces here, we still need help but I don't think we need to start over.

Lovie blows smoke. He was that way with Grossman and Orton. Martz coming to Jesus was because he love of the pass plays. Tice, runs when they are not behind. But it is the run between the tackles or bust. I think Lovie's golly jeez comments are starting to fall on def ears. With all the changes since the SB season it is coming down to one thing not changed, HC.

I've never seen the Bears just mail it in under Lovie. The Bears always seem prepared to play, execution may be a different story. I don't think it's fair to judge him off the fact he doesn't yell scream and get animated. They always seem in every game, a few outliers but a couple no doubt. Each guy coaches to what he knows and who he is.
Lovie is calm, why get animated and yell and scream at a ref during the game, is it going to change the call? Is yelling at a guy on the sideline going to help his team? I see it as though if someone made a mistake, they probably know they made a mistake and know what they need to do and yelling at him likely won't do any good. So I don't think it's fair to criticize his coaching style.

I don't have a problem w/Lovie being calm. But there are times when he does need to throw a thunderbolt here or there where it is warranted. If you yell too much it can have just a negative effect, but when a guy who doesn't get mad actually DOES it certainly has much more of a tendency to light a fire.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

According to the players, he does throw thunderbolts. In the locker room. He just doesn't like showing up his players

Well whatever the case it might do him well to try something different. A on the field "I'm not going to take this any more" moment might be in order. Certainly couldn't hurt at this point.

I have no idea why we would go a complete different direction, I certainly hope not, it would be a much longer rebuild if we did go for major changes.
Coaching wise, I'm not sure, I like Marinelli as the DC or at least DL coach what he's done with Paea, Melton, Wootten, McClellin, Collins.
Offensively, I like Holt/Tice as the OL coach, with Louis and Webb. Tim Spencer has done well with the RB's like Bell, Allen, Forte, DeBord has been good with Adams, Rodriguez and Spaeth, I put the failure of Kellen Davis on Kellen Davis, he doesn't stay on his feet and drops the ball. Drake has been awful at developing WR's. I'd keep a decent number of them I guess lol; but We still haven't developed the players like we need too.
