I won't deny that I am a fan of Lovie Smith, I think he is a good head coach. But even good head coaches get fired if they can not get the job done, and he has not been able to get the job done. No matter how much the players, management or ownership like him, the time has come for him to be let go. I am sure he will catch on somewhere, maybe even have success somewhere else, but I don't think he will ever get the job done here.
This loss has all but sealed the Bears fate for the playoff chase (Vikings AND Redskins have the tiebreaker). The Bears offense since he has been here has been a joke. They showed a graphic with the Bears offensive rankings since he has been here, and the highest has been 17th which was in 2006 under the man so many hated Ron Turner.
I'm still not convinced he will be let go. We'll see how these last two games go and what Emery decides. I think we will know in less than a month. Maybe as soon as the season is over.
How many people mock Ron Turner...but he had 1/2 the talent on O that Martz/Tice had and got much more out of them.
He knew what his talent level was, and he made a gameplan around that talent level that allowed them to acheive and got the best out of them. Martz was to smug to change it, Tice was to dumb to set it up; and Bates was worthless in setting up the passing game. It's sad that in the last 10+ years that Ron F'n Turner and his paper napkin of plays was the best OC we've had; and that was w/the likes of Grossman, Orton, TJ/Benson and Moose.
btw Benj, I'm not happy about seeing Lovie fail, I've been a backer of his for the last few years, and I think he's a hell of a coach, but he's not getting it done, and it's time to move forward.
Score saying that Emery is not tethered to Lovie, he doesn't have to keep him; he could keep him, but it's not gauranteed.

Fans hated him, and he had the best statistical offense lol.

His offenses were crap too. Just better crap than we have now. But still crap. I still remember his rotten play calling, like that play where he ran the circus midget (Little Garrett Wolfe) between the tackles.
How pathetic ARE we as a team when we look back in admiration of the rotten Ron Turner years?

Pathetic.
Which teams had better talent on offense? At RB? QB? WR?
I like Lovie, and for the most part (barring this season), I think he got the most out of the talent he was given to work with.
From the time he got here, it was apparent that he needed help with talent evaluation, specifically on the offensive side of the ball & he never got it.
That said......when it came to this season, he couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag.
This team has a major rebuilding project ahead of it and some lean years are ahead.
Thank-you Lovie Smith, the effort was there, the results were not. Best Of luck.

That's like looking into the toilet after taking a dump and trying to figure out which turd is the prettiest. They are all nasty. They all stink. Just like our offenses in recent years.

Id say that Cutler>Grossman Forte>Benson & Jones Marshall> Barrian?
I don't think it's wrong to be a Lovie fan. He's had a good long tenure. The bad thing is he has no exit strategy or has evolved offensively over time-which he has had a lot of. If he doesn't have to be dragged out of here I believe he can find another coaching job in time.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.
