How about that little brother. We finally found a point you made we can both agree on. What he owes Bears fans he's paid in spades over years. He's been one of the finest and most committed players to ever don a Bears jersey and he's done it with pride in his play and never once let down his game.
He gets my admiration for that but when he tells me I have no right to criticize his coach I tell him to go fuck himself. I do have that right because his coach isn't getting his job done.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Urlacher's done and his attitude is starting to show it. He might be back 1-2 more years on the top end. His legacy is already set, and he knows he's a first ballot HOFer. This year, more than any other, he's taken swipes, and now he's done it to the fans. It's irrelevant if we think it's his right, because he's an entertainer, plain and simple. You don't disrespect your fans, you cater to them, even if you can't stand them.

I have a real good idea as to how much people pay to attend professional sports events. I have attended professional sporting events all over the world including NBA Finals games and Stanley Cup Finals games.
My point is only this... If a fan who has paid for their ticket isn't allowed to boo. How are they supposed to show their displeasure of their favorite team's performance?
FWIW, I am not one to boo my favorite team but I do not begrudge fellow fans that wish to do so.
Lastly, the NFL is a business. The Chicago Bears are a business. Brian Urlacher is a business. I think that Urlacher should treat his customers better.

Do you need the players for the team you root for to like you?

Urlacher has given the fans his body to win every game he played. That should be all the fans "demand" out of him. I don't give a shit if he likes me or not. I was a Bear fan before Brian, and will be long after he is gone.

What? Are his "customers" going to start supporting another team? Cheer for a new pack of players who don't really care about you? Feel free. I enjoy the players on the Bears. But I do not root for the name on the back. I root for the laundry. It does not matter if the players on the field like me, love me or down right despise me. It does not matter if they are angels off the field or the biggest POS in the world. All that matters to me is them playing the game and winning.

And yes, there are a FEW players that like the fans, but those are the exception, not the rule.

You don't bite the hand that feeds you. I get that he's trying to defend his coach/organization, but there are much better ways to go about it than attacking your own fan base.
The same thing can be turned around. Without players there's nothing for the fans to watch.
I like to believe most fans have more class than to boo their own players. But if they do, then the players should have that "free speech" option too, and point out how clueless some "fans" are. Idiots. Most of those folks are probably fat idiots who never played the game at any level. Spoiled. We're becoming a nation of idiots IMHO.

I strongly disagree. I'm going to pick a company that has the closest thing to a cult following. Apple. Lets say they come out with a really nasty product and it is failing. As a matter of fact, they had one version of iphone that was having antenna issues. The user community was crapping on the product.
If Jobs (the face of the company) had come out and said that he didn't care about the writers that were writing about it nor the customers that were complaining about it, he would have had a faceful of ownership right away. Jobs or not .... You simply do not treat customers like that. Whether they are spoiled, unresonable, whatever... it doesn't matter. Being good businessmen, they admitted they had a problem and fixed it double time.
If they had just let it stay out there and come up with stories about how they knew the product might have issues and let it just fester out there without any fixes, it would have stopped selling.
We agree on most things, but IMO what you say here is simply wrong. It will drive any organization, whether a commercial establishment or a sports franchise into the ground. Just my opinion and most of the time I am flexible in changing positions, but not here.
