Lovie, Cutler and the Green Bay Packers

Many people look at Lovie Smith's record of 8-11 against the packers and get mad at him. After all he stated in his introductory press conference that his number one goal was to beat the packers. Looking at the record, he has not done that. However, that was not always the case.

Between 2004-2008, Lovie Smith and the Bears went 7-3 against the packers. Pretty good eh?

what changed? Two big changes. Aaron Rodgers took over the helm in Green Bay and we got Jay Cutler. Since get Cutler, they Bears have gone 1-8 against the packers including the playoff game. Cutler is 1-7 (missed game 2 last year with his finger). In that time, Cutler has thrown 9 TDs and 17 interceptions for a QB rating if 59.9.

Blame Lovie for for 8-11 record if you want, but put at least half the blame for the record on Cutler who absolutely sucks against the packers.

I believe it has more to do with the arrival of Dom Capers as GB Def Coord in Jan 2009. True, Cutler has not played well vs GB, but it's been a complete Offensive failure against Caper's Ds.

No offensive line. Ron Turner, Martz & Tice as our OC's. Until this year we had the worst WR corps in the NFL. Last 3 years we've had one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL. We are still trying to dig out of the player-talent hole dug by Jerry Angelo, and this year we have epic injuries of key players.

    But it's Cutler's fault.

If that's true, then all we need to do is cut Jay and as one poster put it in another thread, we can get a "real leader" by signing Kyle Orton again. Problem solved. No need to get an oline, or fire Tice or Lovie. Cut Jay and it's all good again.

    Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

What did I say that was wrong? All my statements are based in facts. I did not say Lovie was guilt free, just pointing out that Jay had not done anything to help the Bears win.

I think it's a coupling of the 3. Capers/Rodgers has Lovie/Cuters number. Capers knows how to stop Cutler, and Rodges and that O has no issues w/Lovie's D. That 7-3 was against an old at the end of his career Farve and it shows. I said it in another thread, GB has no fear of the Bears, of Lovie's D or of any O that involves Cutler/Marshal/Forte. They simply shut down Forte and make Cutler throw knowing that he'll eventually turn it over b/c he doesn't trust(deservedly so) any other wr.

JABF, fact is fact, Cutler(OL is not the only problem so please act like that is going to be his salvation) more weapons will not make Cutler throw less picks, he was a 20 pick guy in Denver w/a great OL and plenty of weapons. Cutler NEEDS to improve his own play, and the only way I see that happening is w/a strong O minded HC that can convense him to be smarter and have better mechanics.

Well stated. Our failures against the Pack go beyond Cutler, and ultimately lie at Lovie's feet.

They go beyond Cutler yes, but he is included in that also. But the whole coaching staff takes the blame.

Nothing you stated was wrong. Cutler hasn't helped, just pointing out that he's just one part in a systemic failure.

I think this is wrong. I think he's 9-10 against the Packers actually.

Jay Cutler has been the victim of Gang Rape by the Green Bay Defense since he arrived here and is constantly throwing while off balance or running for his life. If you want to try and deflect some of the blame off of Lovie, I suggest we look elsewhere other than the poor bastard that has Clay Mathews constantly making him his B%&$*. You said to blame Lovie if you want to, yea, I want to.
