It is committed funds. You don't make a decision based on committed costs. Either way that salary needs to be paid. They need to think about the difference (extra monies that they would have to spend) and the long term benefits and see if it makes sense for them.

In addition. How does Clements differ all that much from Jeremy Bates? Tom Clements has not been running the Packers offense before this year. Joe Philbin was but went to the HC spot in Miami. Both have a single years experience as an NFL OC and Bates has one more year of experience as a play caller and it trumps what Clements has done with a far more experienced offense. So is Clements even a better choice for Bears OC than Bates let alone HC?

I alluded to that in another post, along with the fact that McCarthy has been, and still is, very involved in their offense. It's McCarthy that calls the plays, always has, not Clements, or Philbin, or Jagodzinski before him. There seems to be a lot of talk for Clements as a HC candidate and I'm not sure where that's coming from. He may very well be a good HC, but I'd rather see what he does as an OC on his own merits before handing him a HC job he may not be ready for yet.Quote:

Greg Roman would be intriguing. Guy's got a good background, been with Harbaugh a few years. What he's done with SF's offense I think has been pretty special. He's shown he can work with the talent he has effectively.Quote:
