That is a one year charge. I am hoping they will think long term
It is committed funds. You don't make a decision based on committed costs. Either way that salary needs to be paid. They need to think about the difference (extra monies that they would have to spend) and the long term benefits and see if it makes sense for them.

I'm not goin' there yet. Let's wait until we whether or not we know there's even gonna be a job opening to be filled. Besides Clements was one of those QB coaches who turned down the Bears offer to make him their OC.
In addition. How does Clements differ all that much from Jeremy Bates? Tom Clements has not been running the Packers offense before this year. Joe Philbin was but went to the HC spot in Miami. Both have a single years experience as an NFL OC and Bates has one more year of experience as a play caller and it trumps what Clements has done with a far more experienced offense. So is Clements even a better choice for Bears OC than Bates let alone HC?
This is way too premature is you ask me.

I alluded to that in another post, along with the fact that McCarthy has been, and still is, very involved in their offense. It's McCarthy that calls the plays, always has, not Clements, or Philbin, or Jagodzinski before him. There seems to be a lot of talk for Clements as a HC candidate and I'm not sure where that's coming from. He may very well be a good HC, but I'd rather see what he does as an OC on his own merits before handing him a HC job he may not be ready for yet.

Spot on Rakk. Some people forget just how influential MM is in that offense. Mike McCarthy is to the Packers offensive success what Lovie Smith as been to the Bears defensive success. It's too bad we can't combine them into one person or hire MM to run the Bears offense. It would look far different. Aaron Rodgers wouldn't be so highly thought of if he was playing in Chicago with the mess we've had here and I'm sure Jay Cutler's numbers would look far better in GB.

it's called player development something the Bears know nothing about

Not true. The Packers refused the Bears' request to interview him. It's not that uncommon, as the Bears turned down the Jaguars' request to interview Tice a few years back. However, teams almost never block their guys from getting head coaching interviews.

Correct, I don't think a team can refuse an interview for a promotion-type position, but can refuse for a lateral move. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that's how it is. Since Clemens was already selected GB OC, it was a lateral position we were offering.

I wish him the best. He has some tough, tough decisions to make.
Yea I wouldn't go so far and call Lovie a cockroach but Lovie is on the hot seat IMO.

p.s. McDaniels trashed the Denver franchise in record time. I can't imagine him as a head coach here. He's a good OC. Bad HC.
UGH anyone but McDaniels. I'd even take Butch Davis over McDaniels.

Too bad we didn't dump Tice......

That is correct.
Personally IF Lovie is fired I'd rather see Greg Roman (49ers OC) or David Shaw (remember he has significant NFL Coaching experience) get it.

Greg Roman would be intriguing. Guy's got a good background, been with Harbaugh a few years. What he's done with SF's offense I think has been pretty special. He's shown he can work with the talent he has effectively.
