I think Tice has screwed up Carimi. I think I previously stated this, but I heard it on a radio show and it seems like a good assessment. It was stated that Tice believed Carimi was leaning too far forward (this is why he was good at run blocking, getting the forward push) because Carimi was getting beat side to side. So Tice was on him for the leaning to far forward part and after that Carimi not only got beat side to side, but was also beaten by the bull rush.
The shifting of Chris Williams made no sense at all when they knew they did not have a better left guard on the line. Especially not even keeping Williams as a backup left guard. There is no one on this line that has been given more of a pass than Webb, who has never been benched and actually given a promotion after struggling at right tackle the year before. He is not good at the overall picture.

Right now I'm of the opinion that it would have been wasted OT talent vs RB and ST talent. Money would have been wasted either way. Way more out of whack here than the OL.
Nicks or Grubbs could have been building blocks. What do we have now as far as that? We dont even have serviceable guys on the oline now that Louis injury. Just saying you are looking to improve 5 positions on the oline now rather then 4. We have added jack shit so how does that help?

Well, can't argue with that. Assuming that having played for us didn't permanently scar their development!

I wonder that whoever stays on the OL will have a steep learning curve coming from Tice's over simplified system. May make the rebuild process that much harder.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.
Restore the roar!

It is going to be tough. Under a new coach the players will have to actually, you know, block people. Poor saps. They've been trying to learn the "Tice Turnstile System" and now it's the exact opposite.

Outside of Carimi who has to be kept because of pride, the entire line can be traded in.
Look at Frisco's OL. Thats what ours should look like.
Hire Frisco's OL scout.

I'm glad my novel of an assessment didn't bore you but I love the "what are the odds?" Quote
I too was thrilled (young at the time but just starting to follow very closely) when we hired Tice...and I can't believe I'm saying that any reasonable person would look at him for this disaster
Here is my thoughts.
THE GOOD
-Louis has emerged
-Webb is showing slight improvement
-am I missing something?
THE BAD
-we suck at blocking year in and year out.
-Incredibly Cutler still had a pulse
-Utter failure to develop Cwill
-Seemly sever regression for probably the best tackle we drafted since Colmbo (Carimi)
PERSONEL (all bad no good)
-Cwill was "competing" (c'mon does anyone buy that crap?) then lost in a day, then benched ("swing tackle" is Tice code for benched)
-then cut? Who the hell is he kidding refusing to start CLEARLY our best lg and probably best interior linemen (at the time we didn't know Louis would be so strong)
-Rachel was benched after a miserable day all around, then he went defcon one batshit crazy so he was cut (benched for suckass spencer) The laughable part was IMO he was rapidly improving and showed maybe he could find a home there
-Carimi was struggling, yes but this move to gaurd where he's worse is not only hurting our team but hurting his potential development and seems Tice is trying to fast track him to Cwill status
The Personel moves I just do not understand, you be the judge I guess
And I'll save discussion on his OC ability for a more related thread
But with that I would like to say looking towards a fast approaching offseason is I would not be opposed to a center taken even in round one if someone out there had the ability to start day one (to Warrent this rimlington winner would need to be on the board) If anyone remember I wanted a trade down for Konz last year. But I'm not too faniliar with the C and G crop this year.
I've stated the overlooked importance of a C before and if anyone wants proof, concidered what happened when Kreutz left, even though he was on the decline his last year, it was noticeable. Often overlooked value is the relationship between the C and QB, in regards to relaying audibles and blocking schemes back and forth (if you don't believe me, watch how manning and Saturday used to work in tandem to disect a front Pre play)
Secondly, if we are serious about wanting a real run game, we need a guy here who often must make a key block in most inside runs as I stated in a previous thread
Lastly our need for a starting caliber C and or G is the breakdown of our division....Suh, Farley, Ragi...we need an answer long term that's 1/4 of each season against

I would add that C.Will went from being our best and most consistent offensive lineman in 2011 (at LG), to being cut in mid-season this year (we got nothing for him). With our oline injuries and woes, C.Will - at the very least - would have been a solid backup for the LG position. Why would you cut him mid-season? If you want to upgrade, then do that after the season is over. I'm not saying the guy was good, but he was better than the crap we're putting out there now.
And part of me wonders why we didn't just leave the guy at his LG position this season. He wasn't great, but he was the best OL we had last year.
I just don't understand why we move offensive line players around and play them out of position - and THEN wonder why they fail. It's madness.

Grizz & JABF,
Thanks to both of you for reminding me of all Tice's clown school moves the last year or two. He managed to lose us TWO pretty decent LGs this year and now is apparently well on his way to ruining Carimi. I'm so mad I can't see straight right now.
I want Tice (and probably Lovie too) CANNED in exactly 11 days.
-
Lovie can take some of the blame for our line Personel as well, I think he dosent view the oline is important and our draft history show that (lovie is an egomaniac IMO I strongly feel that he influences the picks...the Shea pick I think was the case)
I mean imagine if we took a olinemen for one of every 2 DBS we took in the first 5 rounds in the last 7 years.
But getting back to Tice, I think sadly its time for him to go, this musical chairs shit is utterly senseless, any coach at any level would know that OL is not just one position...again let me show you our oline makeup by NATURAL position from left to right
RT C RG LT LT
This is utter incompentence and its absolutely ridiculous that we have one first round pick cut and the other (who let me remind you was projected as high as top 10) seemly REGRESSING.
Now you could look to his regression due to injury OR maybe he came in with all this confidence and coaching from Wisconsin and Tice forced his "genius" on him, made him uncomfortable, got him out of his game, and therefore he is about half as effective as he was as a rookie. Regression with a clearly talented guy after one year? THAT is inexcusable.
