That is interesting as hell JJ. I was going to answer JABF's question that I thought everyone would leave if Lovie left, regardless of if they were asked to stay, but this information makes me pause. I would have no problem keeping Marinelli and even give Bates a shot at OC. I think Toub will be gone as he will probably land a HC gig somewhere else, if it's not here. If anyone else had said this, I would not believe it, but I'm sure you have at least a couple inside people that you get your information from.

Marinelli's position is surprising, because I always thought he was content here working for Lovie, after his DE debacles. Interesting. Thanks.

And to further the thought process, if all the nice boys and girls at HH are really NOT playing nice together, that helps explain why nothing is getting done and is dysfunctional. Honestly, Love has lots of warts, but as loyal as he seems to be to his assistants, this is not what I suspected would be one of them. That to me would probably be the last nail in the coffin. The players may love him but if this is true (I dunno...), then you have a HC that the other coaches feel is not letting them do their jobs. And the product on the field shows. Even worse. You have players who love him and maybe coaches that maybe want him gone? Still having a hard time believing that about Lovie.
Even more confused now. I keep hitting higher and higher levels....

I have always wondered how the D was managed. It was interesting to me that Rivera was shown the door for no apparent reason, Babich was brought in and pushed aside, Marinelli came in and seemed to do well, but then stagnated. I too thought Lovie and Marinelli were conjoined. This is great info, JJ. It explains a lot. I would now be totally in favor of keeping Marinelli as DC, knowing it was Lovie Dovie's Dope-A-Rope mismicromanagement holding him back. Obviously, Lovie isn't the D Guru he's brainwashed the McCaskeys into believing. I want him fired even more than ever.
As far as Toub, while I like him as our STC, I'm not sure he's HC ready. I wouldn't mind him staying as our ST guy.

My feelings exactly. I'm thankful he's been good coaching a ST's unit. But I don't feel so comfortable with him as our head coach. Also, under Lovie's tenure, Toub has been fed a steady diet of exceptional special teams players. We've acquired many players over the years - just to fit Toub's needs. Even our best starters play ST's here (even pro bowl players like Peanut). I do believe that this has had SOME bearing on the ST's play.
Ideally, I'm hoping we get a head coach who has a solid offensive coaching background. Toub could be an asset as head coach for our special teams guy, but who really cares? Not me.
Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis
I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

I really would have liked Lovie canned during the season to audition Toub as a HC candidate. That won't happen so I think he's gone after this season unfortunately. Toub as DC could be intriguing.

How often is it that coordinators stay after the firing of a head coach. Don't new head coaches want to bring in their own coordinators?

Well, there is no law that says that members of the recently fired coaching staff can't apply for a (the same) position with the team. If a new HC wanted to keep some of those persons. If the franchise informed the new (incoming) HC that members of the old (outgoing) staff were interested in working for the New HC, and then asked if the New HC would be willing to interview those persons. I don't think I would have a problem with that.
Making it a requirement though, would be a bad idea.
