Stock Watch: Marshall, Peppers, Wooton - rising.
James Brown looked as bad as Webb's worst day ever was. Another Tice "project" who will never be a decent starter in the NFL. He was exposed as another Bears wannabee NFL player IMHO.
LINK to the article Stock Watch: Jeffery needs refining
RISING 1. Brandon Marshall, WR: He led the team in receptions with six, and flashed what should have been an inspiring effort on a 15-yard touchdown in the first half. Eventually, the Green Bay Packers took Marshall out of the game. But afterward, Marshall made a long overdue plea for accountability on offense. While collectively the group probably isn't as talented as Marshall, if they put forth his effort on a week-to-week basis, we wouldn't be discussing the possibility of the Bears possibly missing the postseason.
2. Corey Wootton, DE: The performance against the Packers doesn't go down as outstanding, but nobody on the roster could really claim that distinction for this game. Wootton played a season-high 62 snaps, and tied for the team lead with 1.5 sacks. Wootton made a season-high three tackles and was responsible for a couple of hurries. After getting off to a slow start to his career because of injuries, Wootton seems to be proving he's worth the draft pick the Bears invested in him.
3. Julius Peppers, DE: Because of injuries diminishing the team's depth, Peppers played a season-high 65 snaps against the Packers and notched a five-tackle performance in addition to contributing 1.5 sacks and a pair of quarterback hurries. Fighting through a bout with plantar fasciitis most of the season, Peppers seems to just now be finding his groove, making two tackles or fewer in most of his outings of 2012. Peppers needs to continue to be a disruptive force for this team to win out to have a shot at the postseason.
FALLING
1. Kelvin Hayden, CB: With Tim Jennings still out of the lineup, the Packers decided to go after Hayden and nickel corner D.J. Moore, and both players gave up touchdowns in pass coverage. Green Bay targeted Hayden 10 times and completed six balls against him for 79 yards and a passer rating of 118.3. Although Hayden has started two games, opponents have generated a passer rating of 100 or better when targeting the cornerback in four of the last five games, according to Pro Football Focus.
2. Alshon Jeffery, WR: Jeffery's struggles against the Packers could be attributed to rust since he missed four games with a fractured hand and another two as a result of arthroscopic knee surgery. Against Green Bay, Jeffery was called for three offensive pass interference penalties, and althoughJay Cutler targeted him four times, the receiver finished the game without a catch. As a rookie, Jeffery hasn't yet learned the art of being subtle when pushing off defenders. An offseason spent working with Marshall will improve Jeffery in that area.
3. James Brown, OG: Brown made his first start at left guard after putting together a promising performance the week prior against theMinnesota Vikings. This time, things didn't go so well for Brown, a player the staff thinks can eventually be as good as Lance Louis. Brown struggled most when the Packers stunted with a defensive end and Clay Matthews, which resulted in the rookie giving up two sacks and a quarterback pressure. Brown didn't fare any better as a run blocker, and eventually the team sat him on the bench and replaced him with Edwin Williams.

So Alshon is failing as a WR due to a couple ticky tacky OPIs and missing 6 games due to injury and having a moron for a WR coach. Got it.

Yes, took the rook right off the ole practice squad. It's how we roll under Lovie
Next week we'll start a few Illinois high school kids, now that the IHSA playoffs have finished.

#79 there has all the physical tools. He's big but athletic. He's a square peg we can pound into any of the round holes in our O-line. What's that? He's the waterboy? He had back surgery? And a torn MCL? No problem, our O-Line Guru will fix him right up.

have to agree with the thoughts about Brown. The thoughts from Tice. Think Brown can end up as Pro Bowler. Problem is that he is a project and needs good coaching

That's a good point Shark and it's an unfair criticism of Jeffery both in that game and as far as his rookie year goes thus far. It's for certain that many others, Marshall included, may well have gotten away without being flagged on those plays. PI can be a pretty subjective call and in the case of offensive PI maybe even more subjective and therefore more questionable.
While I won't blame the officiating for that loss I will say that we have to consider in what games those calls were made. I don't care what Evernight, Loki or any other Packer fan including two of my daughters have to say the Packers are and have long been the beneficiaries of some very generous officiating going back to the days of Lombardi. They are the darlings of the NFL, have been for over 50 years, and often get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to questionable calls. The Packers in the playoffs and Super Bowl = great TV ratings. This isn't even debatable and I won't.
Jeffery has made some nice plays this year and has been productive when healthy. In a better offensive scheme with a much better OC he has the potential to become another BMarsh and a potential All Pro. They need to give the kid a break on this one.
He's made some nice plays

I think here we have to cut Brown some slack too. I don't think I need to remind you all of how poorly Lance Louis played his rookie and sophomore years at OG and how after having won the LG spot in camp he was benched after just a couple of games once he had to play against the "big boys". This year Louis was playing at a Pro Bowl level before he got cheap shotted by Allen and injured.
Brown was pretty highly thought of going into the draft (ranked as high as 3rd round pick) but had enough personal issues to his credit that teams shied away from him but he was still the top UDFA lineman available and Emery signed him. This is Phil Emery we're talking about not Jerry Angelo and I trust his judgement of talent far more. Louis also had some personal issues in college and was arrested on an assault charge for punching a guy out if you all remember.
I want guys with a chip on their shoulder playing OG for the Bears. I want tough guys like Bortz, Thayer and Becker were back in the '80s not cream puffs like Spencer or CWill or hot head mental cases like Rachal. Brown came into a tough situation and faced guys like Matthews and Raji so let's not be too quick to judge him on one performance in his rookie year. He was a LT in college and for the most part has been used that way since he came to the Bears. I'd want to see a lot more of him before I threw in the towel as far as James Brown is concerned.
I still believe part of the problem with the Bears line is the way they practice. Lovie conducts paddy cake run throughs at 3/4 speed and they don't hit. Then they get into a game and to me it's looks like they're still playing at 3/4 speed and not hitting or driving off the ball. I'm a firm believer in the "you practice like you play" approach and these guys play about the same way the practice.
Slow and Soft!

Soul, I'll sure in the hell blame the zebras. Once Shields got away WORSE then what Jeffery did and not get a flag, somthing stunk.
