Who should Bears fans root for Sunday?

It was easy rooting for Kevin McCallister to outwit the "Wet Bandits" in "Home Alone." But with the Bears battling for a wildcard berth, it's not as simple to tell the good guys from the bad guys.

As a result, the following is a guide to clarify which results would most benefit the Monsters of the Midway. Keep in mind that the Bears would earn a wildcard berth by winning their final two games over the Cardinals and Lions coupled with one of the following scenarios:

    1) One Vikings loss and one Giants loss; 2) One Vikings loss and two Seahawks losses; 3) One Giants loss and two Seahawks losses; 4) One Vikings loss, one Redskins loss and one Cowboys loss; 5) Two Seahawks losses, one Redskins loss and one Cowboys loss.

It goes without saying that you'll be cheering for the Bears against the Arizona Cardinals,
    but
here are some other teams to root for on Sunday:

Texans over Vikings in Houston (noon)

The Bears (8-6) are tied with the Vikings (8-6) but will lose the tiebreaker with Minnesota.

The teams split their season series and would have the same division record if the Bears beat the Lions and the Vikings lose to the Packers next week. But Minnesota will win the tiebreaker regardless due to a better record against common opponents.

The Bears need the Vikings to lose at least one of their final two games, and Minnesota faces a tough test on the road against the Texans, who could clinch home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs with a win.

Ravens over Giants in Baltimore (3:25 p.m.)

The Bears are also tied with the Giants (8-6) and will lose the tiebreaker with New York based on an inferior conference record, so they need Tom Coughlin's team to lose at least one of their final two games. The Giants close the season by hosting the woeful Eagles.

    49ers over Seahawks in Seattle (7:20 p.m.)

The Bears can leap-frog the Seahawks (9-5) but only with wins in their last two games coupled with two Seattle losses. Unfortunately, Pete Carroll's team hosts the Rams in the season finale, so a Seahawks loss to the 49ers may not ultimately help the Bears.

Eagles over Redskins in Philadelphia (noon)

The Bears are tied with the Redskins (8-6), who control their own destiny in the NFC East. It may actually benefit Lovie Smith's team for Washington to win out because it would be best for the Bears if the Redskins or Giants win the NFC East and the Cowboys finish second because the Bears would win the tiebreaker with Dallas and lose it with Washington and New York.

Saints over Cowboys in Dallas (noon)

The Bears are tied with the Cowboys (8-6) and would win the tiebreaker between the teams by virtue of their Week 4 win in Dallas.

I'll take the Eagles and Texans, but more importantly, i want the Bears to start winning again.

You'll get your wish on Sun. They play the Cardinals. Or did you want them to start winning against good teams?

I more interested in the Bears changing regimes than I am in some garbage " playoff appearance " . So even tho I'm not rooting for the Cards and the Lions - I'm rooting for the Cards and the Lions .

You know, you could still root for the Bears to win and still get a coaching chance. Root on the Skins, Giants and especially the vikings

It's not in my blood to root against the Bears really . But for the first time ever , I'm actually looking at loses as having a Silver Lining . That's how much I want things to change around here .

But they'll probably back in , and some will toot their horns about making the playoffs , and some will flip-flop ( again ) about how the Bears " maybe aren't that bad and seem to be playing better " ..... and all the while I'm gonna be sitting there thinking " here we go with the false positives again ".

And he'll stay - and we'll all get to watch Groundhog Day again next year .

I HATE that movie. Please God NOOOOO. Don't make it happen.

Thanks for the OP though, that's a great help. I was a little clueless on the various scenarios.

I could never root for a loss. So, I'm hoping we win out all the way to a Super Bowl win.

The off-seasons seem incredibly long now. I'm sure not looking forward to the season ending.

i have to root for the bears f all other teams. I want a superbowl dammit Im 33 idk how many more years Ive got left

for me its a win win we lose closer to seeing lovie gone(i hope at least if we collapse they would fire him) and if we win we have a shot at the playoffs

and I never wish for my team to lose for a better draft pick 1. I seldom like our first round pick lol 2. we usually screw up the first round any ways
