Well, a few weeks ago a player threw his gloves into the stands. A man trying to bustle his way down to get them fell over the wall. He was caught by the player who threw the gloves into the stands so he was okay.

I was at a White Sox game in Old Comiskey. We were in the picnic area behind the outfield wall. Some drunk guy fell out of the stands and landed on the field right in front of us. Security didn't even check to see if he had a broken neck, just grabbed his arms and dragged him off. Of course, at the time, we didn't know he was just drunk. Could have been a riot up there. And no, no way he was trying to catch a ball, the white sox weren't hitting home runs then. And in all my years of watching baseball, football, hockey and soccer, I have never seen a fight over a ball or puck that caused any riots or knocked people out of the stands (Well, not in American Soccer)

Is Goodell going to outlaw earthquakes too? I'll bet a LOT of people COULD fall out of the stands during an earthquake. $5,000 fine for Mother Earth. Makes about as much sense as a fine for the wrong color cleats or throwing a ball.

Its things like throwing balls to the crowd that can really make someones day. You think. If you caught a ball that marshall threw into the crowd that would be one hell of a memory. You'd be telling the story for a long time.

Earthquakes don't happen during NFL games. Goodell already put them on notice.

I think Goodell has lost his mind. Why not just tell a player to knock it off, the first time he does something like this (1st time offense)? If the guy continues to do it, then give him a fine.

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

I've been to more games at Soldier Field than I can remember, and have seen plenty of crap, including fights. Alcohol is always involved. I bring a couple of our kids too, and there's plenty of children throughout the stadium. We also tailgate, and the same issue applies there. I have no issue with people enjoying themselves, and I'll have a 2-3 beers myself during a 3 hour game. However, there is nothing more pathetic than a bunch of middle-age dudes acting like they're back at the frat house, and reliving 1988.

There's a reason college stadiums are alcohol-free. Responsible drinking is only for responsible people.

If they're serious about reducing fights, limit the amount of alcohol served per customer. That could be done by putting a bar code reader at each concession and have each ticket holder present their ticket at purchase. Every ticket is scanned in when you go through the gate already. Some people will find a way around it, but it's a start.

It will never happen though because of the revenue it brings.

Also, I have no problem with not wanting balls thrown in the stands because people, sober and drunk alike, will kill themselves for it. The fine is excessive.

that.... is actually a great idea.

Wouldn't help with the tailgating and such before hand... but that is a good idea and would help cut down on such issues

Some universities have started to allow beer sales, University of Louisianna at Lafeyette "The Swamp", The Liberty Bowl in Memphis, and some others. But most, you can drink at the tailgate lots, but not inside the stadium.

Revenue is huge though, and that's a lot of money at stake. No one will voluntarily go there, and the NFL is doing all they can to get people into the stands. The TV game day experience is so good, it's actually hurting attendance.

So, should the pack be fined, too? After all, logically, the fans are gonna be rushing each other to give whoever scored a pat on the back
