We tried to build a Tampa-style Defense when he first got it here, and while it worked great in 2005 and 2006, we completely ignored the offense and it burned us.
Then we tried Lovie's next approach...his time in St Louis, bringing in Martz and STL players, and THAT failed miserably as well.
Our defense is still solid because the Tampa 2 is a simple defense, and we have the key personnel to run it (a great DL, and solid LB corps combined with aggressive DBs like Peanut and Jennings). Unfortunately, we are completely LOST when it comes to running an offense. We have a franchise QB, we have a probowl WR and RB, so i think its time that we let Emery pick out a GOOD OC to run the offense, and try to fix our OL and TEs. If that happens, i think this team can make it all the way, even under Lovie.
Also remember the 85 Bears...Ditka and Buddy Ryan pretty much HATED each other and where at odds with each other all the time, and yet it still worked out beautifully for us. I think we can repeat that except on the opposite end of the ball...Lovie handling the D with Marinelli and some no-BS OC calling the shots on offense, one who doesnt give a shit about what Lovie thinks, because our new OC will probably be next in Line for the HC spot. I think that tension will force everyone to step up, Lovie included (since he knows his job is on the line)
