Who's your favorite to replace Lovie, if he is fired?

If I had to choose (I don't but I'll play along), I like Bruce Arians. Not only did he resurrect a moribund Colts team, but did it with a rookie QB, with not a lot around him on the O. Add to that, he succeeded during an extremely difficult period with Pagano diagnosed with leukemia, lost for the year, and called on to step up. He's older than many of the other names, but he has shown true leadership.

Cutler will never be a QB in the style of Aaron Rodgers but yeah, he does need to make better decisions. That will come when two things are in place.

One some blocking that he can depend on. Even in game like the last one when the line did a much better job than usual he still doesn't trust them and when that happens he gets happy feet and his mechanics get shot to hell.

Two a quicker less predictable offense with a TE who can catch the ball. He threw a lot of risky passes this year because he lacked check downs to a TE and a receiver running many crossing routes underneath coverage. Both were big parts of his game in Denver but that's not Tice's style so we saw little of that.

There is a lot more of Elway and Favre in him than there ever will be Rodgers and Manning so you take the bad along with the good. He's gunslinger not a game manager. Let him loose to make plays with his feet and his arm and he's terrific make him stand in the pocket and read defenses and you only get half a QB.

If Tice is fired it won't be Cutler who did it to him. Tice did poorly enough on his own and his, or Lovies, insistence on using Hester in place of more accomplished receivers didn't help his cause nor did the under use of Michael Bush. Those weren't Cutler's decisions.

I'm still angry over his tenure as oline coach too.

There is a certain sense of sadness over the thought of Lovie being terminated (if it actually happens) because to me his start was the end of the Dark Ages as far as Bears football was concerned. We've certainly won more often than we've lost and no more 4-12 or 6-10 seasons but the objective when he arrived was to win a SB.

Well we got there and lost and haven't come close since. Even the NFCC Game against the Packers was a foregone conclusion once Cutler was injured. I believe you just can't keep hanging in there with a guy who repeatedly loses the big games. I know the second half schedule was tougher than the first half this year but by then I think we all felt the offense would have begun to look better not worse.

I wish I could see any hope of it getting better fast but I don't. Not even a shift over to Bates is gonna solve all the problems as long as the culture is so slanted toward the defense as much as it is. I wish it wasn't but that's the way I see it.

I Gota agree lovies Gota go on the Personel choices, gamedsy blunders, and lack of ability to make adjustments to win big games...

As far as JC is concerned I think we have played away from his strengths (coaching) he is not a qb to sit in the pocket make a quick read and fire, nor is he a rg3 type guy. We have to let him make plays and I've seen no attempt to roll a pocket or changing any launch points where he can make something happen. Our oline most def hasn't helped the cause nor has Hester being out there

I would love Gruden/cohwer but realistically gime shanny, long shot I know but high risk high reward the way I see it

Like him or not,Sean Payton will also be out there.
Despite the cloud of flies buzzing around him,he will land somewhere.

I like Sean Payton, but don't believe Emery will seek him. Halas Hall abhors controversy, and Sean is tainted from Bounty-gate. I see Jerry Jones making a play for him, though.

Haven't the Bears drafted a few guys with questionable backgrounds? I believe so. If the price is right, and there is mutual interest, he will be here. If Lovie Smith is fired at years end.

but again, I hope Lovie is here until he decides to retire. And I will say the same thing about the coach that comes after him, whoever and whenever that may be.
