It does not matter how much you win if you can not seal the deal. Anything less than a Super Bowl win is a failure. Sure, he only made the playoffs three times in nine years. But his teams have always been competitive and usually waited until the last game of the year to be eliminated. How many truly meaningless games have the Bears played in his tenure? Not too many games have been meaningless. A lucky bounce one way or another.... a RB staying IN BOUNDS, ect. and the Bears make the playoffs a lot more times.

But, it is a results orientated business. And you are right, Lovie has failed to produce a Super Bowl. So, he joins other failed coaches who have not been able to get the job done. You either are a Super Bowl winning coach, or you are a failure. Win the division 20 times, get the first round bye each time... shit reach the super bowl each time... if you lose, you are a failure as a head coach. Great record, but overall a failure.
And you missed Ric's point, Andy Reid IS a failure, which is why he is being fired. He was just suggesting that even as a failure, he was (is) a better coach then Lovie.
    I'm trying//to let go//of maybe//but maybe's just so//very interesting//Oh, what a thing.

Fact: This Bears team has played like shit every week since week 8 and with an incompetent offense you shouldn't expect anything different.

Fiction. We're done we can't beat anyone good. We're pretty much backing our way in.

Fiction. Bears are a one-and-done team should they make the playoffs; they have no identity on offense, though this will be enough to give Lovie another stay of execution.

Fiction. The Bears will never do anything while Smith is the coach.

Nothing like..... win three divisions? Make a Super Bowl?

Perhaps you said win a Super Bowl... because he has done quite a few things as HC

in a 9 year period Benj that is rather minor. Most coaches would not have been given the leeway he was given for how poorly he has done over the last 3 years, regardless of how decent to above average the previous 6 had been.

3 div titles and a SB appreance would probably be superb for a team like Minny or Det, but for Chicago it cannot be enough.

No doubt. Just clarifying that the Bears HAVE done SOMETHING under him as Head Coach. They just have not done enough. I personally think that Lovie is a good head coach. Just not a great head coach. Under Lovie, the Bears are good enough to always be in contention until the final game or two. Very rarely have the Bears played a meaningless game under his rule.

Lovie's tenure will go down as a failure though, as he did not win the Super Bowl. But to say the Bears have done nothing under Lovie is wrong.

Let me clarify my point then, Ben. The Bears will not doing beyond what they have done with Smith as head coach AND the McClowns running the organization. The Patriots, Packers, Steelers, Giants, etc. play to go after championships. In your own words, the Bears play to be in contention and rarely play meaningless games. I'm sorry, but that's a standard that I can live without,....
