Bears to the NFCC? Or maybe even the Super Bowl?
Call me crazy, and a homer if you must (because I usually go against those who are over the top homers) but if the Bears make the playoffs (and I really think they will barring a complete meltdown against the Lions) I think the Bears have a pretty good chance to make the NFC Championship game.
Before you judge, hear me out.
For l this, we know two things must happen. Bears must beat the Lions, and the Packers need to beat the Vikings (which they MUST do if they want the second seed and the first round bye)
That means the Bears get the six seed and a first round match with the 49ers, which is a better matchup than you may think. The last time we saw them we had our backup QB playing and were completely unprepared for their QB who was making his first NFL start. Now we have film on him, we will have Cutler, and the 49ers seem to be stuck in a downward spiral. We could be catching them at the right time.
Both teams will be coming off a win (Bears against the Lions and 49ers against the Cardinals) so momentum won't play much of a factor. But I think the Bears have a better than average chance of winning their first round game.
IF the Bears get past the 49ers, we go to Atlanta to face the Falcons. Do they really scare you? They don't really scare me. For all that is said about Cutler crapping his pants in big games, Matty Ice has a track record of also melting in big games. He is winless in the playoffs and is 0-2 as the number one seed. I think our defense could pressure him into throwing us at least one pick. Not a definite win, but I like the chances against the Falcons. I think they are the softest team in the NFC playoffs (more than us and that says something).
Then, it is on to ether (I imagine) Seattle or Green Bay. This will be the test, but COULD the Bears actually survive and head to the Super Bowl? Not very likely, but I think they have a half way decent chance if they can make it this far.
Sure, Green Bay has kicked our butts repeatedly these past couple years, but it is hard to beat a team three times in a season. Yes, they did it to us in 2010, but we has Hanie playing half that third game for us. With Cutler playing, the outcome MIGHT have been different, even though Cutler is kinda bad against the Packers, but he is a hell of a lot better than Hanie.
I would rather Seattle though. We should have beaten them if not for a couple of bone headed calls, and a concussed Bennett dropping a wide open TD and a few other miscues.
Granted, it will be in Seattle, but I think we would have a much better chance in Seattle against the Seahawks than in Green Bay against the Packers. This is likely where the train ends.
Perhaps I am just delusional (quite possible since I had to work on a Saturday for the first time in forever and I am hopped up on caffeine). But I actually think this is a real possibility.
Thoughts? Disagreements? Let's hear it!

Yes the Falcons scare me; more then the 49'rs. They have 2 losses, one bad(carolina), and a close loss to the Saints. And good wins against NYG's, Cowboys, Saints, and Wash. Name our good wins, Dallas. Name our bad losses....SF, Hou, GB x's 2, Sea.
This Chicago team is easy to defend. Bracket Brandon and put a spy on Forte and zone everyone else. To paraphrase Woodson, given enough time Cutler will throw the D the ball. Forte is hurt and won't/can't carry the team, and Brandon by himself won't score enough to beat a team as dynamic as Atl who has 3 legit recieving threats and a QB who is not shackled by an OC that won't go deep. Their Run game isn't as much of a threat as it once was, but when you have your entire 2ndary playing back b/c of the way that team shreads in the passing game the holes will be there, and Brian is as likely to get bulldozed as he is to make the tackle now.
And that's IF you can beat SF, who has a dynamic(if not flawed qb) and a great OL/run game. This D is not capable of stopping the qb that passes first but can then scramble/run anymore, the loss to Sea reinforced that. That's also not taking into account that the SF D is legit and even w/Cutler this O cannot score 21 points, even when the D scores for them. This O will HAVE to score 24-30+ points to beat SF/Atl and there is no chance, outside of a Arizona-esque game that happens, and it sure to hell won't happen 2x's against 2 elite NFC teams.

Bears wont make a deep run in the playoffs for one simple reason:
Our Offense is broken.
Most of the playoff teams (49ers, Falcons, Seahawks) have good Defenses, as weve seen first hand. Yes, we have a great defense too. So ultimately any matchup will come down to which team can breakaway from the other's defense first. And i just dont see our offense doing that, since they struggle to put up 14 points a game.
Defense may win you championships, but offense will take you there, and unfortunately ours is broken.
I'm trying//to let go//of maybe//but maybe's just so//very interesting//Oh, what a thing.

We do not deserve to be in the playoffs. Our team has played putridly recently. If we get in the playoffs, it is a simple one and done with the blame on Cutler for Cutlerceptions.

just need to get hot at the right time... not sure if we can make it. Knowing GB, they will lose today and we don't make the POs with a 10-6 record

Ok, you're crazy. Seriously I just hope they get in & then I'll hope for the best & see what happens. We don't look like a team capable of making a deep run in the playoffs but ya never know. That's why they play the games. I mean we could lose today, so could the Vikings & Cowboys, Giants win & make another SB run. Who knows. I just hope we win today & give ourselves a chance.

So much for that idea.

It was good while it lasted. I would have thought the Bears had a better chance of losing than the packers.
