BearJim say BEAR DOWN!

Emery will look at the division, as well as our team. The division dynamics have changed since Lovie became our HC. The power structure has changed during these years. The Packers have more than a "good team" and have built a good franchise model. Oh, how I wish we could take the dysfunctional Chicago Bears franchise and model it more after the Green Bay franchise - the Packers are built to be successful over the long haul.
The Vikings, were a joke until Leslie Frazier took over. He has built a rock solid team in a very short time. It is a team that is good now, and getting better. Look for them to compete very well with the Packers in future seasons.
The Chicago Bears have really not changed. We are not a bad organization with Lovie as HC. He puts about the same product on the field every year. The problem is that while we stay about the same, the division has gotten significantly better. And it's going to stay better in the foreseeable future.
Emery knows this. He strikes me as a competent guy. He will see that we are at Lovie Smith's ceiling. Sure, players come and go. His sub coaches come and go. But the product on the field is pretty much as good as it's going to get under Lovie Smith. Again, it's not a bad team. But not going to challenge the Vikings or Packers.
We are what we are - a bottom feeder with Detroit in the NFC-N. A 3rd place team, again. Out of the playoffs, again. Talking about "next year" again. The NFC-N is going to continue to be a tough division for the foreseeable future. Lovie Smith-level teams will not compete well there.

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.
I'd have no problem with that, and we know Forte would be used in the passing game againHe's a damn good coach, but he ran his course in Philly like I believe Lovie has here. Call it what you will, change of scenery, etc. but sometimes that's necessary. If Lovie is let go, I have no doubt he'll end up HC with another team, and will be successful.
We've had one playoff win since the Superbowl loss. Coaches with Superbowl wins have lost their jobs after nine seasons so I see Lovie and company going. If they decide to keep him around I'm going to take a break from this team for awhile.

Totally agree with MPBears68. It's wayyyy overdue. Lovie has always been about defense. Offense has always been the red-headed stepchild. In today's NFL, you can't win with only a defense. Enough said. Fire his ass.

I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
Honey Badger Don't Care. Honey Badger Don't Give a Shit.

If Lovie is fired, I will always believe that one of the nails in his coffin was his failure to value the importance of the offensive line - year after year after year.
Cutler, B.Marsh, Alshon & Forte would have been epic this season behind a rock solid offensive line. The line should have been in place years ago. It wasn't just a 2012 failure. If Lovie takes the hit and gets fired, I'll always believe part of what got him in the end, was the oline failure.

I notice everyone saying its the offense's problems that got us here, that its now a passing league, etc. I say, The bears arent made out for this hybrid new fangled passing thing
Honestly, Whats killed the Defense every year for quite a long time? TOP! If we were to up our TOP the D could stay fresher for longer into the season!
I say trade off the WRs, and QB, pick up 3 RBs, and just go Option and Run every play
If you take the full :40 every play, thats 2.6 minutes off the clock, plus during the plays, lets call it 3 minutes... for a 3 and out! If we can run even more and rack up the yards, you could be looking at consistent 10+ minute TOPs per drive! (Ideally) so, Even if you 3 and outed EVERY drive (based on some research, probably around 20 drives per team per game [60-70 plays in 2010] even though, not all are 3 and outs, for purposes of this arguement lets say they are) you would have eaten up a majority of the clock, putting pressure on opposing offenses to do their thing quickly, and then let them get cold as your offense is out there.
I know this wont happen, but dang it feels good to write it, because it helps to erase mediocre QB play, Horrendous WR/TE play, and Atrocious Pass blocking by the OL!![]()
short faced bear say BEAR DOWN!
He definitely should be, but I'd be very surprised if he is actually fired.
I've never seen a coach get the benefit of the doubt so many times like Lovie's gotten in Chicago. Any other coach that misses the Playoffs 5 times in 6 seasons is gone, no questions asked. But I'm sure Lovie will find a way to survive this and we'll be asking the same questions again this time next year.
Lessons learned:
If a HC has an excessive sway in GM/Personnel dealings that over time that could become a hinderance. Taking away his power would be like pulling teeth.
If the ownership has a finger in the soup for the HC it causes consternation for the GM.
When you put the GM in a precarious situation like that you cannot expect straight, concise moves in either personnel decisions or leadership. He becomes more of a political animal and will be lucky to break the averageness of JA.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.
