I thought I heard a massive cheer somewhere from the southeast this morning. Now I know what it was.

I tend to think that they will bring in an offensive minded guy, and let the D stay in place.
Tice is in big trouble, but I can see Bates promoted to OC.
Hope Emery lets the new HC have full decisions on his Coordinators, so we can attract the best candidates. Mike McCoy makes sense as an offensive minded HC that lets the D run as is designed. Marinelli does not need Lovie to continue the 4-3 Defense.
I'm glad we ripped the bandaid off, it's best for healing and for the pain.
And I'm not a big fan of telling the new coach who will be on his staff or what philosophy we will take on offense/defense.
The point, and the resultant rejoicing, is that we made a move.....a real move.....for the first time in 9 years. Part of me wonders if the head scratching parts of our draft/free agency moves wasn't done in part because Emery knew there was a decent chance we would be changing systems.

That is a very good point. Shea is a tweener. Gave Emery the flexability of changing directions if need be. It's been mentioned before, but still an interesting concept.

I like Lovie....he's a good guy, great defensive coach. He just wasn't getting it done. Hopefully they can find a guy that can actually coach offense.

I'm sad to see Lovie the man/Lovie the person go, I think by most accounts players liked him & put out a solid effort for him.
That said, it had become apparent to all that as long as he was the coach, the Bears were going to be saddled with an unreliable & unproductive offense.
Playing this style of football wasn't going to win the Bears a Superbowl in today's NFL.
They could've given Lovie another 9 years and I doubt the Bears would ever field a top ten offense or make it to another Superbowl.
Now it's time for this organization to put an emphasis on the offensive side of the ball, particularly the passing game.
History shows that having a great defense and being able to run the ball might win you 2 championships every 60 years.
That isn't good enough.
I hope that in this new era of Bears football, the top brass will finally get serious about assembling a championship caliber team on BOTH sides of the ball.

This move was overdue. Lovie is a fine man and from what I can tell, a pretty good leader and DC, but he has overspent his time as a Head Coach. Who knows, maybe Jerry Jones will give him another chance in his dream job in Dallas, but it wont help them either.
As a previous post eluded to, there is an even chance that the move Emery makes could make us worse rather than better. True, but isn't that what most of us have been saying all along; that what Lovie offers every year is an average team? By definition, there is an even number worse and an even number better. Average won't win Championships and when that is the business your in (winning Championships), then you damn well better have the balls to get rid of average to try to get better. Professional Sports is not about simply playing for the fun of it, that's what Little League and High School are for. At this level it's about winning, and if you are consistently average, then you might as well be at the bottom.

Yep, the bottom at least gets better draft position. Now I wish we had lost the last 2 games too.

Well I am excited for a change... we cannot be disappointed in what Lovie has done for Da Bears in his tenure as HC. Da Bears have been a factor in numerous years under his helm and it started out with watching Lovie coaching a talentless bunch that out played teams with more skill. Since more control (hiring coaching staff, etc.) was given after 2006, it showed that Lovie was a bit clueless on developing the whole package. The "missed the playoffs in the last 5 of 6 years" fact has being said a lot, but lets not forget to also "thank" Lovie (and Angelo) we do NOT have any developed up & comers hidden in this roster. Lovie was a veteran friendly player's coach that was a bit too narrow minded in the end.
I personally don't think much thought can be put into the fact that Da Bears fired Lovie "so quick" on Black Monday shows Emery's control of the team... Angelo fired Jauron the first Monday after the '03 season too. And lets not forget George McCaskey still has a fresh pair of big boy pants on too. Money will be thrown around the League pretty quick as teams fill their HC spots ... so a quick and educated decision will be needed to be made. This will shows us how thorough Emery is with his homework (that was bragged about some much during his hiring) and what type of game plan he has shown upper mgmt these past couple of weeks.
Looking ahead... I'd like to see this as a much needed "offense first" modernization and a change in direction of the storied franchise. We have an aging defense that the previous HC/GM built around a 9 year old scheme, while ignoring a struggling, inept offense that now finds itself with with three guys (Cutty, B Marsh & Forte) ALL in their prime.
The blanky is gone for MANY inside Halas Hall after this decision. Let the rebuild begin.
