We have a good foundation. If we went 6-10, I would view it the same as Green Bay going 6-10 in 2008. I don't remember Packer fans jumping the cliff then because it was obvious they had talent and were just putting it together. We have good talent outside of the OL, and don't see a complete rebuild.
explain to me how this team is 6-10 next year? What will you be saying if we start going to the NFCG/SB over the next 5-10 years b/c of this guy? It's absurd to assume the team will go backwards b/c a coach who hasn't gone to the playoffs but 3 times in a near decade is no longer on the team.
Are you really happy Booch w/a winning record if it means not making the playoffs, which means not making the SB, which means not winning the SB? Oooo but hey the team was won 7 to 11 wins, why do we need the playoffs or sb's?
I would say that Boochee Man should have gambled on his predictions, instead of just trying to make a point that he thinks Lovie should have been kept.
I don't share you point of view, but I also won't mind if you come back to say "I told you so" to people if you are correct in your prediction. Just realize that no one will like that post either. :)
Winston Churchill: "Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak."
"If you're not a liberal at twenty you have no heart, if you're not a conservative at forty you have no brain."
Sorry, but you're nuts if you think this team falls that far back with the amount of talent they still have on this roster.
It was clearly a time for a change and I don't understand why so many people accept mediocre results year after year and continuously give Lovie a free pass. This team was never going to live up to their potential offensively with him at the helm and with the right hire, they should be as good, if not better next year and have a brighter future moving forward.
Once the bears add just a couple competent O-lineman, it won't matter who the coach is, this will be a good team, as long as those O-lineman are added in the next year or 2 while a lot of our defensive players are still not too old, this team will be a playoff team.
the only real holes that I can see are O-line, O-line, O-line, and LB as urlacher and even briggs are getting older. Everything else is set.
Boochee, I think Lovie is a good defensive coordinator, but an average head coach. I know the record is better then average, but I tend look at what Bears do against the elite teams as a better measure. I don't see the Bears going 6-10 next year. As a fellow Bear fan, I hope you would place your wishes for the team's success above any disagreement you have with the firing,....
What? Are you kidding me? So lets just keep being average because we're afraid we may be bad if we make a change? Thats a gutless way of looking at it. Any one (or team for that matter) that ever achieved greatness took a chance to make things worse for themselves in an attempt to get better. Success is NEVER given, it is achieved through risk, and sacrifice. If you are comfortable with average, then average is all you will ever get.
Just for the record, Lovie Smith started with a 5-11 record his first year after Dick Jauron achieved a 7-9 record. Given the easy schedule we had to get our 10 wins this year and compared to what looks like a difficult schedule next year, it is reasonable to assume we may regress somewhat in the first year of our new regime, but no one is saying our work is done with Lovie gone. On the contrary, the next coach will also be expected to succeed, but he will be given a grace period of a couple of years. Whether or not we succeed quickly will depend largely on the system the new guy brings in and how much change will be required to implement it.
