My guess is the change in the return rules. Once the wedge rule was implemented, he didn't seem to be able to return kicks as well.

yeah, don't think that helped any, but I think that he didn't focus on returns like he had previously. IDK, I think that his move to WR was a big factor also.

I dont think he ever planned anything or focused on anything when returning kicks. That man just used to run and be able to see holes in front of him. Perhaps his eyes got bad. But I do not buy his being turned into a WR had anything to do with his disappearing act.

yeah. It might
To stay at an elite level at anything takes lots of work.
There is only so much practice time alloted.
Especially when my new job title became the new job he gave me. That's where I would want to make sure I did a good job since that is now my primary job. You only have so much time and you have to decide where to use it at. As a WR, where do you think he was getting most of his reps?

Swallow your pride and embrace what you do best before you can't do it any more. Which may already have happened while you were chasing trying to be a WR.
Just my opinion.
Does this mean we may NEVER see the legendary "Hester Package" unleashed?
I smell a "conspiracy" here. I believe Lovie was fired because he threatened to finally unleash the vaunted and feared "Hester Package" - even though Roger Goodell had forbid the Bears to use it. Roger Goodell had Lovie "neutralized" before the HP could be used (it's a player safety issue to unleash the Hester Package).

Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis
I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

You make it sound like they asked Hester to take on some minimal task in addition to his main job. When they got rid of Berrian and Moose they tried to make him a starting WR. The dude was a KR and an (aspiring) CB. I'd bet he was focusing far more on developing his WR skills over the last few years than he was at his KR duties... I am sure he wouldn't admit it, but I would bet on it. Plus, if I recall, he had some nice escalators in his contract if he could perform well at WR. He'd have been foolish NOT to focus on developing his WR skills. It was all a fiasco. Both parties wanted more (the Bears wanted a dynamic WR and Hester wanted money) and ended up screwing it all up.

The "Hester Package" may end up that he is part of the "package" deal with Lovie

I yelled at hester for getting stuck on the 5 yard line when he though about taking a knee and then make a typical dumbass move and try to run the ball out of the endzone.
