What we learned with Lovie's firing today.
1. George McCaskey is a McCaskey that has a pair. This is not your typical McCaskey.
2. Emery wants to win championships, and mediocre results are not going to cut it now that he is our GM, in charge of the Chicago Bears.
3. The Bears were not afraid to spend millions of dollars, eating Lovie's last contract year, if it meant putting a better team on the field. A class act IMHO.
4. The Chicago Bears organization wants to be an elite franchise again - just like when Papa Bear was here winning a boatload of championships.
5. The Packers better enjoy this season, because their NFC-N championship days are numbered.

I think #3 is important to remember. Firing Lovie in a contract year is easy, firing him when he is still under contract? Balls.
I'm trying//to let go//of maybe//but maybe's just so//very interesting//Oh, what a thing.

One thing i think is lost on WHY Lovie got fired is that its not about what he did THIS year, its about the mediocrity this team has had for years now. If Lovie were a new coach, then sure...starting 7-1 and finishing 10-6 and *barely* missing the playoffs, combined with what our defense has done this year would be enough to keep his job.
Unfortunately, its been a track record of 7-9 or 9-7 seasons, where we HAVE talent, but are still "close" to being something better. Mediocrity will only take you so far, and this was it for Lovie. Sure, injuries played some part, but EVERYONE has to deal with injuries and good coaches can overcome them, either through solid drafts/FAs, and/or proper game planning. When you have musical chairs at OC and OL, that flat out tells you that your ship is rudderless.

Assuming you don't hire the next Lovie Smith or promote Mike Tice to HC.
I'm happy for Bear fans though. You guys deserve better than the mediocrity you're being presented with. You need some wholesale changes made by fresh blood, not more "we'll fix the o-line" and then do nothing about it and "Hester packages" featuring a guy who should have never been at WR to begin with. It may take a year to get back to the playoffs depending on how big the changes are, but odds are it will be worth it in the end.

The plan is to get Lovie hired as the Packers GM. We WILL get our revenge.

I am glad that Lovie is gone, however, I would be much happier if the McKaskey's sold the team to someone/company that is interested in winning championships and knows what it takes $$ to do so...I know thats not going to happen, so hopefully they at least address their O-line.
