On one of the networks last night they were saying the Chicago coaching vacancy was the best opportunity of all the vacancies. They said it was just a great situation for a coach to step into. When you think about it, it makes sense. Common sense tells you that this isn't a franchise in shambles. It was a whisker away from being in the playoffs this year. We ended the season as a top-5 defense (LINK)
Cutler/Marshall is seen as a huge positive, as is Forte. We have a GM who is viewed as solid. The owners have said publicly today that money is no object for bringing the best coaching to Chicago. We are a top market for football. While some franchises struggle to fill their stadiums, the Bears are a fanbase that is fanatically loyal.
It's the #1 gig in the NFL.

I agree we are the only team that is not in a shambles, but the defense could be considered a total loss if you are a 3-4 die hard, and the o-line is a toal rebuild (not an easy task).
Not trying to be pessimistic, just looking at it as if I was a top prospect with my choice of teams. Every team has it's Pros and Cons, just hope our Cons do not drive away someone that could take us to the next level.

What we would need all of a sudden is a DT, not a MLB that much.
good that this will not end up as sorry we can't hire you, you asked for 3 million or more
Neither Peppers nor Melton are big enough to play defensive end in the 3-4. They are both rendered useless. And Paea can't even get rotated in at DT, now all the sudden he is going to start at DE?

Peppers would be fine. He's similar in size to JJ Watt who plays DE in a 3-4 (and Watt is a stud). In fact when Pep wanted out of Carolina, he originally said he wanted to go to a 3-4 defense - but of course he landed here in Chicago. He's a freak. He'd be fine in a 3-4.

there is zero chance of josh mcdaniels... they would never hire a guy that single handedly shipped cutler and marshall out of denver... then to hire him here with those 2 guys now here? no chance
also, peppers said he wanted to play OLB in a 3-4 so thats a bit different.. however.. melton and peppers are plenty big enough to play DE in a 3-4... the weight area for a 3-4 DE is between 280 and 310 usually... melton and peppers are easily in that window
however, its best to hope this team stays as a 4-3 theres no reason to change something that works

Wrong on all counts, but that's cool. Pep and Melton both have guys of near identical size who play the 5-tech on just about 3-4 D in the league. Also, Paea had the second most snaps of any DT.
