"Camp Lovie" Training Camp will be gone (hopefully) this summer.
Do you think the country club "Camp Lovie" will be gone this year? Lovie ran a cush, training camp during his tenure. I realize he wanted to minimize TC injuries, but the downside was that players looked like world-beaters EVERY year in training camp, but when the REAL season started, some of the guys who looked like world-beaters, looked terrible against REAL competition.
I feel like an idiot, for posting about how good Hester and K.Davis looked catching passes in training camp this past TC. But in retrospect, I realize that it was pretty much pitch-and-catch that allowed them to look like great receivers. It was too easy. And this was true for all positions. It wasn't much more than a walk through for the team each summer.
Maybe a new coach will light a fire under these guys in TC, and consequently we can weed out players who should be weeded out.

I'll be very happy if they just practice tackling drills in camp for a change.

Yes, this was another one of those things players loved about Lovie. Didn't help the team any, but players liked his camps.
What's done is done. I hope we get someone in that can lead this team to a SB. The players might not like him as much as Lovie - especially in the beginning but it they start winning and they start making it into the post season every year, they will Lovie it.

Of course that's why all the players are mad he is fired. The other half that are mad cause they will suck outside of his system

You're not alone. Reporters/fans/media raved about Hester's WR development EVERY year during camp. Then when the actual games roll around, he's running around like he slept through camp and didn't learn the offense.

I have the suspicion that there's going to be a paradigm shift in the organization.
For years, far beyond Smith's tenure, in fact, beyond recent memory, the Bears have always been about defense. I think that's going to change.
Hopefully, it's toward a balance and not a ridiculous shift toward the offense.
That could have a detrimental impact, because so much of the organization (and the fanbase, truthfully) is of a 'defense-first' mindset.
We'll see.

i hope they dont overlook defense... that is still this team's calling card... we just need to be a solid offense.. and we have all the pieces outside of OL to do so.
the trick is finding a good mixture in TC for tackling drills and high intensity but also to not go to hard as you dont want to go into such a grueling season already banged up or worn down

Camp Lovie was a pet peeve of mine. His first camp, he ran a rigorous, intense camp.......and had lots of hamstring injuries. So....he went country club for TC 2.0 and all subsequent versions.
I recall thinking in TC 1.0 that we finally had a coach that would put the team in better shape than other team's players. I was willing to have a few hamstring injuries (largely because the players themselves weren't ready for the level of fitness required for this new TC rigor), in order to have a better team.
I hope whomever we get, we return to that type of TC model.
