I do not perceive Emery as a fool. If he sees upside in Davis, perhaps he feels that his coaches did not help him along. I am referring more to his position coach. If they want to keep Davis another year, I'm ok with it as long as he's on a short leash. The guy has not been this bad. Hell, the rest of the team has not played this bad in a while.

One of my beefs with the Bears has been its struggle developing offensive talent. QB, WR, TE positions seemed to be ones where we struggled. Olsen is traded to Carolina & they develop him into a top-5 TE this year. He's clearly an elite TE now. We just kicked him to the curb. I look at the endless WR projects we've had - and failed to develop under Lovie's tenure here. Bennett is a success, and this year Alshon has been tutored by B.Marsh, but other than that we didn't do so well. We had to go out and get Cutler because we went through an endless parade of QB prospects and never developed a one during Lovie's time here.

I am really hopeful the new coaching staff can recognize and develop talent better than the previous regime.
    Go Bears!

True and true. The guy gets open regularly, he just has no body control or hands. Unlike most, I actually find his blocking top notch (a notch below, realistically). However, an athlete who can block with no hands has no business starting at TE in a modern NFL offense. For those who question his contract value, I point no further than Craig Stevens.

Having said all that, Emery's job is to GM and make the team the best it can be, not be an open book in pressers. Contrary to that, pressers are a tool for a GM to create smokescreens for his intentions and the best know how to do that. I have no doubt he watched Kellen this year and will be looking for an upgrade. coughjaredcookcough

I didn't see the press conference or even read his actual statement on Kellen Davis...but he DOES have the talent. He just can't seem to put it together. I doubt any GM is going to start announcing player personnel evaluations and moves on day 2 of the offseason when they don't even have a head coach.

He also said there needs to be more production from the TE spot. Nothing I've seen or heard from Emery has shown me he's oblivious to what's happening on the field, like Lovie could be at times. I'll give Emery the benefit of the doubt here.

Emery could be smart here. Maybe he will try to shop him later, so why trash the guy (Davis). We think Davis is a dud, but you never know, another team may give us something for the guy.

    Or.

Like Greg Olsen, maybe we simply haven't developed K.Davis to his full potential. Ya never know. We have let players go, only to see other teams develop them, and get great mileage out of them.

For that matter why isn't hester and the rest of receiving corp better // frankly i haven't seen any developed talent in that area and these players are all receivers to start with//maybe a change in coaching is needed there also//at least lovie knew defense

IMO, our WR coach is a weak link.
