You can blame Tice for that. What a moron standing pat when it was obvious the OL needed help. Tice drank too much of his kool-aid. Not to mention he is at least partially responsible for endangering the kids career. Carimi should have had limited time and worked his way into the lineup.

You read my mind. It just makes me even more angry.
And that's the kind of thing that can cause a youngster to regress permanently. Instead of letting the guy learn his craft and gain confidence at the NFL level, he ended up looking like a putz and getting benched.
Just one more example of how the Bears had no clue as to how to develop our young talent.

Absolutely true -- and even more important than any W-L record, the possibility of permanent damage to him. I'm hoping that this is just heresay...

It's not heresay, same guy on 670 saying his guys in HH are telling him this is the same guy that was told out right that the Mck's are not running the show and it's all on Emery now. Carimi was hurt all year, bank on it.

Also I find it interesting that Scott did not give up one sack when he was in there. Seems to me that we have RT and it's depth locked up(Scott/Carimi/Webb as swing), And I think we only need depth at G w/Louis and Brown, and Carimi. Ya we need LT taken care of, and we need C depth but I think the OL is going to be better off next year then we think it will be, and w/out as much attention.
Many were saying the same thing last year, but the truth is that outside of Louis, even our best OL are mediocre at best. Garza needs to be replaced, he constantly gets a pass as the stabilizing veteran presence, yet his interior continues to fucking suck and he gets zero push in the ground game and can't move outside of his tackles. Roberto Garza is not good, he is bad and has not made anyone around him better. I am sick of him and the veteran pass card he keeps getting. Brown was utter garbage. Benching be damned, I saw enough from Carimi on the inside to say he could indeed succeed there if given a permanent and extended role there, but I can see him getting another shot at RT before that happens which means more under-preparation for him inside. Bottom line, we need two new starters on the interior if we hope to improve on the absolute zero push we got up the middle this season.
On the outside, I finally see Webb as a starter in this league but he is still every bit a mediocre RT playing below average LT. His PBE (pass blocking efficiency) has gotten better every year and consistency in that stat improved as the season went on this year. I am finally convinced he can hang on the outside, but our team is better off having him as our RT and pursuing a true vet LT.
So, in short, we have two guys who look like actual starters and the only above average one is going to be coming back from a torn ACL. There is no question -- OL was the crux of our downfall, the sore thumb of our hand, the giant, obvious elephant in the room. A FA LT and the best available OL at 20 would go a long way to fixing that and it needs to be absolute focus of our staff.

my dream offseason would start with signing a LT like Clady, Long, Albert etc..... and drafting Barret Jones
oline would look like this FA LT-Carimi-Jones-Garza-Webb
We arent replacing five guys in one year this to me just seems most feasible right now. We dont have as much cap as people think considering how many FA we have
Im interested in hearing anyone elses ideas here cause our oline situation gives me a migraine

I think Webb would be better served at RT as well. Getting say Bushrod or another vet LT should be on the list. A vet center would be nice if the $ allows. Don't know how long Louis and Carimi will need to heal but I wouldn't count on them. At least 2 OG's somewhat high in the draft. Hard to do w/o picks.
If we get a vet LT I could see a trade down to get 2 OG's and a LB in the first 3 rounds. It's going to take bodies not the same junk we have right now.
It will still be bad but I believe that you'll see not only potential but improvement when you inject talent into the line as well as a better scheme.

Ric, I have been thinking along the same lines. Yeah, there are some assumptions in there which may or may not pan out (though there sounds like there's evidence to support it now coming out). I have been assuming that Carimi was basically "playing hurt" this year since he was doing so much better prior to the injury, and that he would be much improved next year at RT after a full offseason to heal. I'm also hoping that Louis would be able to come back strong, being young, at RG early in the season if not on opening day.
Scott can back up RT. Garza can back up RG.
Need a FA LT for sure and draft Barrett Jones as starting OC. That leaves LG only which could be Brown, EWill, Garza, or a vet pickup. This isn't an insoluble problem.

In short yardage situations our oline was always overpowered. Never any surge. We need our interior linemen to be much better. We need a serious guard and center upgrade. We could draft one of each in the top 4 rounds (1-guard and 1-center). Get a LT in FA. Then keep the best of our remaining OL to fill out the depth chart.
Then Forte and our RB's can run between the tackles too.
