I will say this. If Cutler cannot improve his decision making, then Ponder may have a better career than Jay. I can excuse Ponder due to him being a young raw talent. Jay has been in this league long enough to have improved his decision making.
yet cutler made less bone headed decisions with martz rather then Tice. Im not making an excuse for him but man Tice was that bad at least to me he was. And it didnt help when we had guys like Davis dropping balls more often then Roy Williams and the fact we didnt have a real deep threat this season with Knox out and the Hester experiment still on going lol

I agree. Hey, I'm not saying Cutler is a bad QB. I also agree he's the best QB we've had in several years. I'm still hoping he will ultimately BE elite.
All I'm saying is that the guy is still a work in progress. He'll be 30 years old in a few months, so if he's ever going to take that step to elite status, then it better be soon. People jump all over Ponder having the higher quarterback rating, but I can excuse Ponder at this point because he's 24 years old and still developing. He is raw as can be. But he could still end up being a solid QB in the NFL.
One last point. Cutler seems to have regressed a bit to me. I wonder if getting his brain scrambled during his Bears tenure (no offensive line, and taking brutal physical beatings) may have hurt his decision making. He does get happy feet now, and some of his decisions are pretty bad/ugly. If we can get a solid oline in front of him, so he can relax a bit, and not have to fear getting a lobotomy by guys like Suh - maybe that is all he needs to settle down and BE elite.

What was the stat I saw during the Lions game-I believe it was a qb rating showing how he's #1 come the fourth quarter. So I'm not buying these pseudo-stats. To thrive and survive as he did there should be another stat just for that.

I think the 4th quarter rating comes from the defensive line being worn down, thus more protection and time for Cutler to find an open target. If you look at his quarterback rating is gets progressively better by each quarter which I believe is a direct result of the offensive line better protecting due to the fact that the other teams defense is getting worn down.

I can dig that between Lovie and JA we really F-ed Cutler development up pretty bad.

Hello to every person that has posted in this thread....
I am a Viking fan and I have a tip for you. If you ever see a list of QB rankings and Christian Ponder is ranked higher Smokin' Jay, please ignore that list as it obviously has ZERO credibility.

I completely agree with you. Let's get him a OL and if it doesn't happen, then time to move on. Personally I am behind him and I want him to succeed, but there is nothing worse than trying to will something to happen that is just not going to happen -- like they did with Lovie. Lovie may do well, but it wasn't going to happen here. Hopefully we have a different ending with Cutler. It all starts at the top, and I like what I see with Emery. I am pretty optimistic right now. I trust him to get us the right coach and that will snowball down to Cutler. I'm thinking positively which used to be a forced exercise lately.

Either Cutler(as good as he is) is good enough to get to the next level or he cannot. And just like Lovie the Bears might to worse or better, but if neither can get it done then it does the Bears no good to stand pat.

I heard that stat too, but I immediately thought - unfortunately it's a 4 quarter game, and if you fail in 3 out of 4 quarters, you're not a lot of help to your team.

Actually, if you look at that list of 20 quarterbacks, it looks pretty much what your common sense tells you. I'd rate some of the QB's a bit higher or lower, but overall it's pretty righteous to me.
In fact, if you just look at the completion rate, Jay is rated as the #21nd QB in the NFL and Ponder is #13:
Rank/Name/Completion %
1 Matt Ryan, QB 68.6
2 Peyton Manning, QB 68.6
3 Aaron Rodgers, QB 67.2
4 Robert Griffin III, QB 65.6
5 Tony Romo, QB 65.6
6 Matt Schaub, QB 64.3
7 Philip Rivers, QB 64.1
8 Russell Wilson, QB 64.1
9 Ben Roethlisberger, QB 63.3
10 Drew Brees, QB 63
11 Tom Brady, QB 63
12 Andy Dalton, QB 62.3
13 Christian Ponder, QB 62.1
14 Carson Palmer, QB 61.1
15 Nick Foles, QB 60.8
16 Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB 60.6
17 Eli Manning, QB 59.9
18 Matthew Stafford, QB 59.8
19 Joe Flacco, QB 59.7
20 Sam Bradford, QB 59.5
21 Jay Cutler, QB 58.8
22 Blaine Gabbert, QB 58.3
Here's the QBR ratings:
Rank/Name/QBR
1 Peyton Manning, DEN 84.1
2 Tom Brady, NE 77.1
3 Colin Kaepernick, SF 76.8
4 Matt Ryan, ATL 74.5
5 Aaron Rodgers, GB 72.5
6 Robert Griffin III, WSH 71.4
7 Alex Smith, SF 70.1
8 Russell Wilson, SEA 69.6
9 Drew Brees, NO 67.9
10 Eli Manning, NYG 67.4
11 Andrew Luck, IND 65
12 Ben Roethlisberger, PIT 62.8
13 Tony Romo, DAL 62.7
14 Matt Schaub, HOU 62.6
15 Matthew Stafford, DET 58.9
16 Cam Newton, CAR 54.2
17 Christian Ponder, MIN 53.8
18 Josh Freeman, TB 53.1
19 Ryan Tannehill, MIA 52.3
20 Jay Cutler, CHI 51.9

How much help can a person be to not only get battered for 3 quarters, put up w/Tice's boneheaded calls, and watch Kellen Davis drop pass after pass then to be productive towards the END of the game?
A heck of a lot of help I'd say.
