You speak of objectivity so what would be your plan of action? Should not the line be fixed and a better OC/HC found to be the most objective look at him? I believe JC would have done better with Martz another season objectively speaking.
Jason Cambell couldn't do it anywhere, Wash/Oak either. That's hardly proof of anything. There was a stupid theory that Campbell was a good pickup, he wasn't. He's as flawed and failed a QB in this league as Rex and Kyle, Carr or any # of failed former starting qb's.

Martz's system just wasn't right for the Bears. We don't have the sort of line to support the 7 step drops and the time he needs for the routes to develop. And when that was obvious, he only begrudgingly changed it and kept going back to it.
Having said that Martz was not good for the Bears, IMO Tice was much worse. Martz has forgotten more about O than Tice ever knew. Both had their respective problems and both had to deal with a dysfunctional line. Whether Lovie was directly responsible for that or not, he was indirectly responsible and now he is gone, so we look ahead. I have to agree with 99 in that Cutler needs to improve. There were inexplicable times that he had protection and an open WR and he plain misfired. I'm not talking about once or twice either. It was too much. And there were the times that he makes throws that few others could.
I honestly don't know what happened, but I have to beleive that you start playing different when you are worried about protection all the time. Will he be able to go back to his old previous self? I hope so. Many QBs never do. He is the best QB we have had in forever. He definitely deserves the opportunity to play under a stable system with good coaches and behind a good line before any permanent negative perceptions are deserved.
I think we address the current problems and see how Cutler is doing at that point. Where we are right now, I just don't see the QB as being a real important issue. There are issues and I'm sure Emery has noted them, but we need to give this a chance to play out before anything can really be determined for sure. Jay had done better than most would have done in this situation. With the beating he has taken I say he deserves a fair shot in better circumstances. He is not immune to having to perform. If we fix everything and he is still not moving the chains enough, I'm sure we will move on, but I don't think that will be mecessary. JMO

Campbell was passable when he was being micromanaged at every level, but it's exhausting for an OC and QB coach to have to do that for you. but as QB left to his own devices, he's a miserable failure, and in order to be successful as a QB, you have to be able to make your own decisions and think quickly. campbell cannot do that.
on the other hand, Jay could probably use some more hands-on help and structure from the OC or HC. i think Cutler could be very successful in a system like Green Bay's. is he going to be Aaron Rodgers? of course not, no one has the touch and intelligence of Rodgers. But he would be a top 10 QB.

I definitely believe we need to fix everything that is broken on offense. It's a holistic approach. I've said many times in many threads that Cutler (hopefully) will be a much better QB with:
1. Solid OL
2. TE's who can catch, and get another WR who can run routes and catch a football
3. A solid offensive coordinator
But, I'm not taking Cutler off the hook either. He too, will need to improve his game. I don't think this is anything new to anyone. Cutler does have room to improve. Let's upgrade those 1-3 issues, and see if Cutler can become the QB to lead us to a Super Bowl win (or more).

Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis
I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

Cutler can't read a defense. He can't beat GB. The only good thing he did this year was get Bmarsh to the probowl. Nothing wrong with these rankings. Sure some receivers (Don't get me started on paperweight K.Davis) dropped some passes but you can't tell me the Vikes wr core is better as a group than ours even with Percy. JC's got tons of talent but in the end, after the game is played, he's just an average QB. Took me 3yrs to admit this. Gotta move on after this season if he doesnt improve. Cutlers just a cock tease right now.
