well... what if Carimi will never be 100% again? I like him and hope for the best. I'm just not sold on taking that risk

I understand your concern and its valid. It's just way too early to give up on your 1st round pick (who was the Outland Trophy winner after all) all because he had a rough year coming off injury/major surgery and insufficient recovery time. In effect, Carimi has played only one season + 2 games. He's known as a hard worker and smart guy, so I gotta believe he knows next season is a make-or-break for his future beyond his rookie contract. That ought to be a powerful motivation for him to hit the gym hard to regain the power and flexibility he lost a bit post-injury. I'd be very surprised if he didn't come back strong next year and fulfill his promise as a starting RT. besides, we have Scott there as a reserve and he was decent enough.
Bringing in Vollmer, as damn good as he is, basically means you would have 3 RTs and only one (crappy) LT. We need LT > OC > OG way more right now than we need a third RT. JMO

Outside of OL help, I hope they look at Detroit's backup TE Tony Scheffler or Green Bay's Jermichael Finley and Pittsburgh WR Mike Wallace. All of whom I believe are free agents.
Scheffler and Finley would be amazing pickups and be instant upgrades at TE (not saying much I know). But they are the two best on the market IMO. With Wallace, throw him in the slot for a deep threat he (along with Marshall and Jeffery) would be a dominant WR crew.

Isn't it kind of funny that they need a speed WR....when just two years ago that's all they had.
BTW, does anyone know the prognosis on Johnny Knox? I understand he's not someone anyone should count on ever contributing. But is there a chance he will come back? (Although I think mentally coming back from that may be harder than physically. He never came across as a "tough" guy to me to begin with.)

I like the idea of getting Tony Scheffler or Kyle Rudolph but as far as I know Rudolph is sadly under contract. Isn't Mike Wallace a restricted FA tho? Finley is undercontract for one more year: . After the 2011 season, Finley became a free agent. On February 22, 2012 the Green Bay Packers resigned Jermichael Finley to a 2-year $14 million dollar contract. I agree about carimi completely when Tice was doing his usual schuffle it really just screamed mark Colombo, he should get a RT shot again next year and I expect much improved play after his knee has a full off season to recover and he can fully participate in off season activities
But I still think we'd be crazy not to make a run at long

Misheard on Finley then, thank you. But Scheffler would be good as he already has a connection with Jay.
Last I heard/saw of Knox was at Willow Creek a few months ago as a speaker. Dude was small as hell. Do not think he should be even thought of as a possibility for a while.

Regarding Johnny Knox, the 2nd article posted below, came out about a week ago. The first one below, has his stats from his last two seasons:

In 2010, Knox topped the Bears with 960 receiving yards and tied for the team lead with 51 receptions and five touchdown catches.
Last season he led the Bears again with 727 receiving yards despite missing the final two games following his injury, and he ranked second in the NFL with an average of 19.6 yards per reception.

If the Bears save money by getting rid of Hester, he's as good as gone. Why pay a guy to take up a spot on your roster that is a liability on offense and gives you absolutely nothing anymore in the return game? Plus you get another $2M to spend on someone who can positively contribute. Easy choice if it were up to me.

I wouldn't mind Scheffler, but I don't know if people realize how bad Jermichael Finley really is. He had 9 dropped passes this year and is a terrible blocker. He's still just 25, but I'm guessing he'll cost a lot more than he's worth and I'd hope Emery looks elsewhere for a TE. There are plenty of options out there that will give us more bang for our buck...like Martellus Bennett, Fred Davis, Zach Miller & Jared Cook.
