Chicago Bears 2013 Free Agency Thread
For the sake of orginzation lets post all things free agency in here

Ill start off by saying I don't know our cap situation very well
First and foremost lets make a splash with a hard run at Clady or Long
After that I'd like to see if we can snag another interior OL
Overall I feel confident with emery at the helm
Let the games begin!

is Long healthy enough to get a big contract? Clady wants to be paid like a Top3 LT
My hope would be Branden Albert if he makes it to Free Agency. I'd take Long too ;)
I doubt that we will be able to get them. I think we have a higher chance to get Vollmer and solve our RT problems

Not sure about Long. He regressed this season, partly due to injury and it remains to be seen if he can return to form. I don't want another Pace situation and I trust Emery to get this one right.

Clady is not going anywhere, so dont even get your hopes up

I really don't think there is any need to go after a RT, Carimi was coming off a major injury and needs a lot of strength traning during the off season. Tice was in too big a hurry to bring him back before I feel he was ready. And we will still have Scott as our back up. I think we need a LT and if Louis comes back 100% another guard and well as a replacement for Garza more then a RT.

Carimi needs to bulk up. Too many times he was getting bull rushed into Cutlers lap. He looked like an out of shape TE. Louis hopefully comes back strong after surgery. I'm down for making a run at Long.

I'm not sure what Jared Cook might yield, but to me it seems you can get greater value from a TE in free agency than a lot of other positions. So I'd look closely into him. I'd rather address TE in free agency with a younger guy with huge upside and experience than burning an early draft pick when we have so many needs to be addressed. Dustin Keller would be my alternative here.
Finding a solid LT is not only going to cost a ton, a worthwhile guy hitting the market is rare. Long might make it to the open market, but how is he physically? Clady probably isn't leaving Denver, as mentioned before, so don't bother getting lathered up for him. We don't need a RT, we have two of them in Carimi and Webb (yes, I think Webb belongs at RT but see Carimi as being the better candidate). We need a center badly. Garza never impressed me at guard and needs to be replaced at center.
We need a WR who can stretch the field. I don't think it needs to be a costly stud, but just someone who can make safeties worry about the guy getting behind them. It's a shame Johnny Knox was hurt so badly. While I hate that the guy doesn't come back to the ball, nor does he fight too hard for a catch in traffic, he would have filled the role for us. Maybe he can come back and be his old self, but I have doubts.
With all of this said, I have no idea about the cap situation. I do know that Peppers is going to cost a ton next year and hopefully that can be restructured.

I thought about this too and agree with you, but I just like Carimi more as Guard than Tackle. Add that Vollmer is a german and I would love having a german on our team... ;)

Well, if stories about his only playing on one good leg are true, that would happen -- he would get pushed back an awful lot.

Carimi is 6' 7" tall. Not too many successful OGs that tall. Too easy for shorter DTs o get under their pads. Carimi is a tackle not a guard. He struggled at RT this year because of insufficient injury/rehab recovery time. What many of us suspected all season has now been leaking out...that Carimi was basically playing hurt and physically unprepared all year.
He now has a full offseason program to get back his strength and confidence. He should be a much better RT next year. As good as Vollmer is, we don't need him. We need an LT to push Webb down to the swing tackle spot and another starter on the interior (my preference being a franchise center for then next decade).
