Clemens is not high on my list. 1) He's only been an OC for one year. 2) He doesn't even call the plays, because McCarthy is the real leader for the offense. Give him some more time as OC. I understand he could be successful as HC, but just believe there are better candidates out there. We are in a position, for once, to compete for the top talent. Just don't see Clemens as a top tier HC candidate.
I'd like him to cite specific attention to detail. What did he believe his best adjustments to opponents have been? Does he fill in his weaknesses by getting assistants who have strengths there or believe his system will win out in time?
(leans back into chair and takes a puff from pipe)
"So, thanks for taking the job. You're a Bear now. Heard you have another game next week?"
"Yessir."
"Great. Use our 2012 playbook for it.
(Next week... on 3rd and 11, screen pass... gain of 1. Punt)
Honestly, I find myself asking a lot of questions with this guy. How much of the offense is McCarthy? How much of it is Clemens? Also, Clemens moved up to OC, back down to QB coach, then Back up to OC. Does he need a Better Offensive mind to guide him?
Positives are that he is likely a good QB developer, and there is something to be said for poaching a coach away from a rival to weaken them.
But I find there are too many questions for this guy to be a (sure fire great) Head Coach. I think there is someone better..
nobody is going to be a sure fire great head coach. clements has developed possibly the best qb of all time, and he is the game planner for the packers. they love him so much that they denied the bears a chance to interview him last time they had an opening. we get better and the packers get worse, i like it.
And there is that 6th longest amount of time between snap and sack that GBs' O-line is giving him... not the same thing... at all....
