Peyton Manning: McCoy 'ready' to become head coach By Brad Biggs, Tribune reporter

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy is ready to become a head coach in the estimation of Peyton Manning.
The Broncos practiced Wednesday for the first time this week during their bye as the top seed in the AFC playoffs, and players in the locker room gave complete support to McCoy, who is scheduled to be interviewed by Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery this weekend. McCoy also has interviews lined up with the Arizona Cardinals and Buffalo Bills. Rumors are more teams could be involved at some point, although all interviews must be completed by Sunday evening. Then, McCoy is off limits until the Broncos’ season ends.
“I think he’s ready,” Manning said. “I think he’s paid his dues. Mike’s a good leader. He’s had some good coaches that have been mentors to him, different coaches that he’s worked with in his years in the NFL that I think he’s incorporated some of their leadership philosophies and his own philosophy.
“I tell you, he’s a worker. We spent a lot of hours together — early mornings, late nights — trying to get kind of our plan in place for what kind of offense we were going to be. There is no substitute for work ethic, and Mike certainly has that. In my opinion, he deserves a shot at one of these head coaching jobs.”
The Broncos finished the regular season fourth in total offense, averaging 397.9 yards per game, and second in points at 30.1. They reached the playoffs a year ago with the NFL’s top-ranked rushing offense, a plan McCoy engineered on the fly when the change was made to quarterback Tim Tebow after the fifth game.
“He’s really a guy that can set his ego aside and really mold something around the guys that he has,” left guard Zane Beadles said. “Obviously, he has done a good job of that the last couple years being as different as these offenses have been. He’s willing to listen and take input and stuff like that.”

I recall a thread we had a month or so ago wherein Benji asked a legit question about who we would pick if Lovie were to be let go. At that time, I had McCoy on my list, but I think he was #5 or 6. The more I read, the higher on the list he is moving. That said, I trust Emery to make the right choice and to sell the right coach on this team.
The Greatest form of revenge is MASSIVE success.

Of the two talked about in this article I'd perfer Peyton as the teams HC, but since he's giving his blessing to McCoy that puts me more at ease.

He has his second interveiw with Miami today, as of right now it doesn't look like he is going to be our new HC.

On the radio I was hearing that he is just implementing the Peyton way. Which on one hand is great but doesn't exactly fill me w/confidence with his own system or philosophy. Any word on Kottler (sp)?
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

He also implemented a way for Orton to post his best stats(couldn't win but that's on Orton's limited capabilities) and implemented a way for Tebow win(although not play all that well). And I believe he got the Most out of Jake Delhomme when he was there in Carolina(that's what I heard either Biggs or one of the Score heads say). The guy's been around, and has had some success w/not just Manning.
Besides, who were Decker and the other WR's before Manning got there? Were they tearing it up w/Orton or Tebow; not so much.

This was in the "Mailbag" thread today. This snippet on McCoy was very interesting, in fact I loved McCoy's philosophy here. There was FAR too little of this under Lovie's tenure here:
What's your input on Mike McCoy as the head coach and what will the change in command do for the defense and special teams coaching? -- Chuck Durante, Guiling, China I think McCoy is an outstanding candidate. He has been prepared by a fine head coach in John Fox. He understands offensive football and how to put players in position to succeed. He is young but can command a room.
And McCoy is a flexible strategist. We had a talk about his philosophies awhile back. He told me, "I learned from Dan Henning a long time ago that if the quarterback doesn't like something, or he can't do it, you eliminate that from the game plan. Same with the running game.
If there are schemes up front that our offensive line runs better, why try to force feed something else? I always say I don't care what we want to do, but what can our players do well? That's where it all starts."
Whoever is hired as head coach will be able to hire his own defensive coordinator and special teams coach. New head coaches usually bring in their own people for key positions.
