I laughed when I read that JA will talk with the Jets
How bad does your GM have to be to make JA look like a significant upgrade?
Here's the thing. The national media has always liked Lovie. Maybe it's because they aren't around him on a regular basis. Maybe it's just because he seems calm and unflappable. Maybe the media just really wants a black head coach to succeed (Limbaugh'd). In their minds, the Bears did not miss the playoffs 6 out of 9 seasons and 5 of the last 6. They remember Lovie leading an untalented (but not really) group to the playoffs in 2005 and 2006. In 2005, his vaunted defense ran their mouths and then completely fell apart against the Panthers. In 2006, that defense was terrible in the Super Bowl, but fortunately for them, Benson got injured, Kruetz had a botched snap and Grossman threw a late INT, and the loss was all Rex's fault. Because we didn't have a franchise QB, the media thought those Bears teams were overachievers who got there only because of great coaching.
Conviniently, Lovie has had a scapegoat in Jay. The media has disliked him from the day he was drafted and hated him since he demanded a trade after Denver botched an initial trade. Jay's moody. Jay pouts. Jay should be doing more with this offense. Jay should smile more and let us take pictures of him and his girlfriend. How is it that Jay is somehow responsible for getting sacked 7 times in a game, yet Lovie gets CREDIT for "making the most out of substandard personnel"? The national media has placed all the blame on Jay for the team missing the playoffs 5/6 season, even though he wasn't here for the first two. They think Lovie had built some dynasty before Jay sunk it. It's Jay's fault we didn't make the playoffs last year, even though he missed the last six games. It's all Jay's fault. I heard Shaun King on the radio furious about Lovie getting fired, saying the QB did him in and Jay is a coach killer, because he went through so many OC's (who were undoubtedly SO talented). Illiterate moron Keyshawn Johnson complained on ESPN that the Bears were dumb for firing Lovie and it happened all because of Jay, and he's "not a leader of men".
In summary, the national media thinks it's all Jay's fault and Lovie did his best. Lovie is lucky the Bears traded for Jay, other wise he might have to take the blame and might not be in line for another HC job.
