Bears sign Golden
The club is becoming a lot more valuable. We have Gould and now we are Golden
Bears sign Golden to reserve/future contract
The Chicago Bears signed WR Brittan Golden on Friday to a reserve/future contract. An undrafted rookie out of West Texas A&M, Golden (5-11. 186 pounds) spent the 2012 preseason with the Bears and the last two weeks of the regular season on Jacksonville’s practice squad. At West Texas A&M, Golden ranked second in school history in receiving yards (3,007) and fifth in receptions (165), catching 33 touchdown passes, which tied him for sixth in school history in career scoring.

looks like they want to develop a speed guy on the cheap in the offseason.
Someone called the score and asked about Knox...again...and they said he's still walking w/a limp. Chances are getting slimmer he'll ever come back. Hope this guy can catch on.

Ric, I barely remember seeing this Golden guy last PS (geez, we love these West Texas A&M dudes, don't we?) but if he has a chance to become a #4 backup slot WR guy--with SPEED please--to replace Knox, then I'm all for it. You know I've been screaming for that and if it saves us having to use a draft pick, all the better. Maybe Joe Anderson becomes the #5. And we can trade/dump Hester...ahhh, to dream. It would be nice to have a wide receiver corps five deep that can actually RECEIVE.

I'm not satisfied with this current group of receivers. I think we need to ditch Hester's lame ass for good because if he's not going to lay it all out on the field for his teammates, he is, in my opinion, a complete failure of a human being for not being there for the team. I think it's worth looking at using Weems more as a receiver since he's obviously not much of a threat on kickoffs. No, I think it's crucial that we spend a draft pick sometime in the first three rounds on another WR. The more solid receivers we have, the better off we'll be. We have three very solid receivers when they're healthy (Marshall, Jeffery, Bennett), so unless we plan to run mostly three wide receiver sets this year, we need to think about picking up one to two more receivers this offseason somehow, some way, whether it be by the draft or in free agency.

I think Hester has tried his best to be a good WR, but it's just not in him to be one. I'll always appreciate Hester for his special teams play. Man, he gave us a lot of exciting moments, and I'll always love the guy for that.
But I do hope we can find a better WR though. Maybe one of the youngsters already on our roster will be ready for prime time this coming season. If not, then I'd like to see up bring in a guy.

With both Weems and Hester not returning anything on ST I'm more inclined to question the ST blocking and at least give them a chance on ST again next season. I'd be more inclined to give Joe Anderson a bigger shot at WR before I ever looked at Hester again at this rate.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

I've been saying this a while but...it's ridiculous for us to be using (wasting) two WR roster spots on guys (Hester & Weems) who are basically purely STs players only. Neither one has any plausible offensive capability. Add in the fact that our #6 WR this past year--Sanz--barely ever saw the field and was later released. Show me one other "quality" team that does that. It was almost as much a cluster f**k as Tice's OL follies were in terms of personnel mismanagement. It was a continuation of the "Devin Hester is a WR" crapola we have been force-fed for so long.
Between Hester and Weems, pick ONE. One and ONE ONLY. Hester is (probably still) the better returner but he only plays one side of STs since he doesn't cover kicks like Weems does (quite well). Hester also has the higher cap hit. And he also is the one who (may) have some trade bait value left to extract. I strongly favor dumping/trading Hester but whatever you choose, pick ONE and ONLY ONE. Let's be logical and not sentimental about it, despite our fond memories of '06.
If Joe Anderson and/or Brittan Golden and/or a new draftee (2 of the 3) show promise as current or future WR weapons, lets keep and develop THEM over Hester AND Weems. Of course that also requires getting a real WR coach to replace Drake too. Then maybe we can become a little more like Green Bay, who seem to never run out of promising WRs despite injuries, and not be left holding our dicks in public if/when Jeffery or Bennett have to miss some time. Gee, that would be nice....

I knew it wasn't, but i was really hoping that was gonna say golden tate.

Don't know that he CAN do it, but I bet the idea of signing him now is to see if he has the ability to improve.
As for Hester, I'd like to see him stay on one more year and see if he can be correctly used by an OC that understands what he is, and developed by a legit WR coach. It hardly hurts if he's sitting at the bottom of the squad. It's when he's evelated to a 2 or 3 that he is exposed.
