Soldier Field to host outdoor hockey, ice skating

The Bears may be done playing at Soldier Field, but that doesn’t mean you have to be -- For the first time ever, the Chicago Bear’s home turf will turn into an ice skating rink for the inaugural Hockey City Classic.

On Feb. 17, 2013, Soldier Field will host an outdoor college hockey doubleheader featuring a noon game of University of Notre Dame vs. Miami University and the University of Minnesota vs. University of Wisconsin at 3:30 pm. Tickets are currently on sale for $15-$85.

Can’t make it to the game? The field will also open for two days of free public ice skating; youth, high school and adult hockey events; private ice rentals; and more. Passes to the public free skate events on on Feb. 2 and Feb. 18 will be handed out at select Chicagoland OfficeMax stores starting at 10 a.m. CT on Sunday, Jan. 6., 2013.

Here’s the list of participating stores:

Aurora: New York Square, 4338 Fox Valley Center

Chicago: Fullerton Plaza, 1829 W. Fullerton Avenue

Crestwood: Rivercrest Shopping Center, 4921 West Cal-Sag Road

Gurnee: Grand Hunt Center, 6523 Grand Avenue

Glenview: Willow Creek Retail Center, 2211 Willow Road

Hoffman Estates: Poplar Creek Crossing, 2570 Sutton Road

Rockford: Forest Plaza, 6455 East State Street

Oakbrook: Oakbrook Court Shopping Center, 1500 16th Street, Suite C

Wait a minute I have seen Soldier Field turn into a ice skating rink, a couple of times while watching a Bears game.
