Barrett Jones or Manti Te'o

A few weeks ago I'd have said Te'o but even without BU as MLB or Te'o I think we could do well on defense if no other leaves the d.
My dream senario would be: Draft Jones in first round
Resign BU on a relativ cheap 1 year,
Draft MLB in next years first round and hope he is as good as Te'o.

Ofcause we'll have to see what Emery pulls off in the off season, if he gets us 2 starting OLine men we can have for many years to come I'd take Te'o over Jones, and then go Oline next years draft. But I really doubt Te'o will fall to 20th pick,

Sorry, not for me. We don't know how much cap space we'll have left, so I don't know if the Bears can afford a guy like Albert who wants big money. We still need Peppers to restructure his contract, then we new contracts for Melton, Roach, Louis and maybe an offensive lineman in FA.

I know that the favor of this week is Jones... in November it was a TE like Eifert and before that it was Te'o.

You know that Free Agency will be before the draft? That we can sign Albert or Bushrod before we have to draft? Melton will get paid, Roach isn't worth much and can be replaced by a FA. Louis with his injury isn't worth much. Give him a 1 year contract that he can prove he can still play at this level. None of them will cash in.
Cut Speath and Hester and you have the Cap Space to re-sign the guys we want. Still would have enough money left for Melton and a 2nd tier LT that is still miles better than what we have. You can't build an OL in 1 offseason. We have many many holes. Draft Te'o and we won't need another MLB for the next 5+ years. Tell me a MLB in Round 2 or 4 that you can say the same thing about?
Guards/Centers aren't drafted in the 1st round unless they are great and expected to make the Pro Bowl as Rookie.

yes, we need to improve the OL. We all know this and Emery will improve it as good as he can and with as much Cap Space as he can use. Izzy can be replaced if he doesn't accept less money. Guy is underrated, but not the biggest need with Peppers, Wooten and Shea on the Roster. Hell we could even trade Peppers and get an extra pick early. Would have to keep Izzy. I agree that if we really want to we can get one of these two LT in FA, but why are you stopping with just one FA O linemen, I am sure it won't be that hard to upgrade either guard or center in FA plus there are some real nice FA TEs that could easily be upgrades to what we have now. Then we draft another just in case Louis can't make it at guard anymore.

As far as Te'o goes I'm not that hot on him and from what I seen the other day he is far from being NFL ready. He would be a good pick up at 20, if he doesn't show more then he did the other day he could fall even farther. If BU signs a deal for another year or two, then draft him and have him work with BU the first year..

If Te'o turns out not to be our guy for what ever reason or drops to the 2d round then we need see what we can get by moving down or out of the first round. But at any rate we need to pick up in the draft what ever O linemen we didn't get in FA and if our PS WRs aren't going to work out it wouldn't hurt to get another WR either in the draft of in FA.

To be fair, EVERY draft of the Angelo era had o-linemen that were "can't miss". If teo is there, we get him.

Every player has flaws. Just because we discovered Teo's the other night means little. It shouldn't have been a surprise that the Fighting Irish could get blown out by a college team that was being compared to an nfl team earlier this year. Teo is a hard worker that is a freak at mlb, and has everyone's respect; we HAVE to get this guy if he falls to us. Unlike when Angelo got an amazing draft pick who was also hurt, there's no real legit reason he shouldn't be a top 5 guy. Now that he could FALL, we quit saying "he ain't gonna fall to us", we say "no, we need o-line." Screw that, we might be set at LB for a good while if we drafted him. If we could get him, it'd be the closest we could get to a Favre/Rodgers situation.

If we had taken DeCastro last year at #19, then we wouldn't have a gaping hole at LG right now. We literally have NOTHING there. Is that a "waste"? Not at all criticizing the Jeffery pick (very good IMO) but for another example...if we had taken Konz in round 2 last year, we wouldn't be talking about squeezing another year out of an aging and clearly declining guard-converted-to-center. Waste?

Which unit was obviously near the leagues worst and clearly cost us multiple games...was it the LB corps or the OL?

Did you mean the McClellin pick?

I think this topic is a little ahead of the timeline. Depends on coaching and FA. As a fan I like the idea of having either player in a bears uni, enjoyed watching them.

It's frustrating that the Bears let the offensive line atrophy to a critical state years ago. They could have avoided a crisis situation, by adding a key guy each year, going back to 2008. Then you're not in a situation like we are now. And it's not so tough to add 1 stud each year or so like that.

Had they done that, the oline could have been one of our best weapons this past season. Our running game dominant. When we wanted to move the chains, or score on the goal line - it would be "money in the bank" solid. Cutler and his receivers could have powered a top-10 offense, that would have complimented our solid defense. Move the chains. Eat up the clock. Light up the scoreboard.

Instead we put up games with 6 points. Another was a 7 point game. Others were sub-20 point debacles. You don't win in the NFL that way.

Jerry Angelo really wasn't good about recognizing OL talent. Lovie really didn't care much about the oline anyway. Now we are in a crisis mode, trying to off-set years of neglect and poor drafting.

Yes, we are especially with our best starter last year (Louis) injured and our best draft prospect (Carimi) struggling after playing injured. It's a real mess.

Our LT is terrible and needs help just to stand a chance. Our C is in decline. Our LG is....well, truth be told, we don't have one. The left 3/5ths of the line is a disaster zone. And that is assuming the above injured guys come back strong on the right side next year. It's a crisis situation.

I'm in favor of all reasonable measures to retrieve the situation as rapidly as possible. Trade/cut Hester, Davis, and Spaeth to free up more cap space. Buy at least one starter OL in FA (LT at minimum). Use at least one and probably both of our high draft picks on the OL. Bring in a coaching staff who knows something about offense. Fix this mess!

If MLB has to take a back seat for a year to rebuild the O and the OL, then so be it.
