Of course you do! You draft the positions you couldn't address in Free Agency, that's why FA starts before the draft.

Jeez, our offensive line consists of the worst LT in the league, an injury-prone RT, an old center that can't protect anymore and a couple of guards.

So yes, finding BU's replacement is important, but fixing the WHOLE offensive line right now is ten times more important.

I can't believe you're actually saying that LB is a bigger need than OL. What games have you been watching the past five years?

Maybe a mod could merge this with the draft thread I feel like we are having two parellel discussions?

go to google and search for "NFL Draft 2010" - then look at this Draft and go back in time. Wikipedia has highlighted the Players that went to the Pro Bowl. Most later round picks that made it to the Pro Bowl are WRs, RBs and OL players. You won't find much MLBs that made the Pro Bowl selected after Round 2. You will find more than enough good Guards and Centers drafted after the 2nd Round.


the OL is a big big problem, we all agree to this. The difference between drafting OL with #20 and a 2nd Rounder isn't really that much. Many quality OL players can and will be found in Round 2 or 4 (since we don't have a 3rd). You don't reach for players because you need this position. We need a LT more than anything. We won't get a LT that will be better than Webb/Scott with #20.
Brown can be given a chance to battle it out in Camp with a vet FA at LG, Garza can play 1 more year at OC with EWill as his backup, Louis will get a chance to show he left his injury behind him and we still have EWill as his backup, Carimi and Scott will battle out the RT spot and the loser will become our swing tackle. Hell I'd even try Carimi as LG and let him play on the left side of the line where he is better.
All will come down to that LT spot.



I like your example with Urlacher... why take a Center while you have a Center that is the leader of this line and still not a liability while you can take a LB you really do need too?


I give it up, you don't draft by need. You don't reach for Guards or Centers or Safteys or TEs in the Top20 when they aren't the best of the last 3-5 years. You just don't do it.
When we have to chose between those two, you take the Position that is worth drafting that high

True but drafting jones or Warmack at 20 is not a reach at all Warmack is projected before us and jones is right around us an has won the Outland AND rimlington

And T'eo is a mid to late first rounder in my eyes, how many future NFL running backs did he play all year other than Lacey? And how many tackles did he miss in the biggest game of his life? I think he's a good player but we will need some more info via the combine and pro days

he missed a few, but he was alone against them. NDs DLine had no chance all game. It's not easy for Te'o to play alone and all by himself. He had a bad game, can't deny that.

I don't care about Mock Drafts as of now. We need to wait for the combine to get a better view. I hope Te'o does not shine in the combine. This would secure that he is available for Emery. I think Jones or Warmack will be available for sure

Very true and I agree with you on both points I think that a lot of who we draft in round one will be determined on

-who we think will be avail in the second

-the new HC

-What we do in FA

-weather or not BU is back and health

-Louis evaluation in the sprin

Alot can and will change you are correct, I would be thrilled with T'eo if jones and Warmack were both gone, if we leave them on the board like decastro last year then I will be very disappointed

What I want to add... if we can chose between these 3, it's a good problem to have.

If Emery has a strong FA (OL-wise), then T'eo makes a lot of sense in round 1, I agree. I would define "strong" as signing one of the marqui LTs we've mentioned AND another quality guy on the inside (a LG). Of course, we need a FA TE too so cap space may make this impossible. We shall see.

Our LT blows, we all agree. We have NOTHING at LG. Sorry, German, but Brown is an udfa rookie, Rachal is a head case, and EWilliams sucks. We have NO PLAUSIBLE STARTER right now. And Garza was barely serviceable and declining last year at C. The left 3/5ths of the line is a total wasteland and right 2/5ths is injured. Don't kid yourself into believing that one FA and one 4th rounder are going to be adequate here.

Do I care when a player was drafted? No.
Do I care if a player was drafted? No.

Do I care if he can play for our Bears? Yes.

He has shown some potential. He is not a sure thing. You bring in a Vet and draft a Guard later in the Draft and let Louis, Brown, the FA and the Draftpick battle out who will start.

Players can improve and they did improve, a new HC with a real OC and a better scheme might help the OL too. We just need to wait what will happen with the HC and who he will hire as his coaches. Dennison is the OC of a good OL and his OL in DEN wasn't that bad either IIRC.

Of course...we'd all like to draft some late rounder who becomes Carl Nicks ver 2.0 in his rookie year. Lets be realistic...it's not likely to happen though. That tends to require several years of development, if it ever happens at all (see: Webb, JaMarcus).

I do like Dennison though. Everything I've read raves about his OL prowess and that may be a decisive factor in his favor since that's clearly been our Achilles heel for years now.
