that's why Pouncy was a Top20 pick and most mock drafts have Jones outside the 1st round :lol-032:


Jones is not a #20 overall. He is not worth that pick.

The Nicks thing was hyperbole and and a bit sarcastic obviously. The overall point is...

We need OL help, as in STARTING help, NOW. Not in 2-3 years.
A 4th-6th round pick is very unlikely to start. Unlikely to play all that much. Might not even make the team.
Thats a depth and development pick for the future.
Jones (or the other OLs we are talking about) would all START at C or LG right away.

so far, Brown hasn't looked that bad. Most times he looked bad was against JAllen and when Webb had his brain farts.
He has shown some potential. He is not a sure thing. You bring in a Vet and draft a Guard later in the Draft and let Louis, Brown, the FA and the Draftpick battle out who will start.

Players can improve and they did improve, a new HC with a real OC and a better scheme might help the OL too. We just need to wait what will happen with the HC and who he will hire as his coaches. Dennison is the OC of a good OL and his OL in DEN wasn't that bad either IIRC.

This is my thinking too, German...if we took no IOL help until the 4th round we would most likely be faced with the SAME problem and have a void at LG most likely with a 4th round took in there

That spells disaster all over again

I know T'eo is a shiny new toy that we want but instead of taking a crapshoot on a 4th rounder (or even 2nd) why not just go for the dunk with one of the 3 that are slam dunks to shore up the middle

And hell If he's valued that low we can net a pick with a trade down win/win

Worst case scenario roach plays MLB if we go jones

Worst case scenario if we go T'eo is we have a pile of uselessness if that rook don't surpass expectations and have a WORSE line than this years with garza a year closer to retirement and Louis now is a liability with a knee history

The latter is a recipie for a 4-12 season the former being not
Nearly as dooming should they play out

Jones hands down. We need O-Line help bad.

We can draft a MLB later on or if push comes to shove Roach could start for a year if needed.

don't forget Barrett Jones mentioned after the game he has a Lisfranc injury that will need surgery and he won't be able to workout before the draft.

Yeah, I was thinking about that too. Schaub had a more severe Lisfranc last year (fracture, not just strain if memory serves). Jones was able to play and play well whereas Schaub was completely out the last 6 weeks or so.

Jones had surgery immediately after the BCS game so he should be good to go by TC no problem. But you're right that missing the Senior Bowl, Combine, etc might hurt his draft stock just due to lack of exposure and "hard numbers". Of course, there is 4 years of SEC tape on the guy since he's been a starter all along, so I dunno. Getting him with our 2nd or via a trade down...damn, that would be nice.

Roach is NOT good. T'eo is a smart player and is phsically a beast. As much as I want talent on the o-line, I'll take not having to worry about the defense losing quality in play for a long time over getting a new center. T'eo is the only player i would make that call for, unless there was a guaranteed pro bowl NT.

Well, that beast and the rest of a pretty good front 7 got their butts kicked all game by Alabama's OL and RBs Monday night. I'm not saying T'eo isn't a good player or that we should write too much into one bad game. I get that. But it definitely was not an impressive performance for a guy in the national spotlight who came in with the "top 5 draft pick" label being slathered all over him.

IF Teo indeed checks out in the pre-draft prelims to be a true beast MLB prospect and IF he falls to us at #20 (two things that seem mutually exclusive to me), then yeah I can understand not passing on him. Between Jones, Warmack, and Teo we are talking about seniors here who've played at a high level for quite a while all in positions of need for us that could solidify it for years to come. Not a bad choice to have...
