Honestly, although the guy is known for his bad picks, over time he had gotten better, and can't be blamed for Williams, as he was interested in Clady, and Carimi was a universally lauded pick. Dude also shouldn't be blamed for Haynes (picked right before Polamalu), as he was drafted for a different style of defense than what Lovie coached. He got cute with some of his picks over time, but when you consider that almost every one of the major players on this team were brought here by him, you have to give some respect. I think he's had to have learned (something fans don't believe coaches or GM's are capable of, for some reason) from most of his mistakes by now.

My only problem is why the hell a 3-4 defense would be turned over to him, knowing he's a 4-3 guy. Granted, the Jets have bigger offensive problems than defense, but with a steady o-line, they aren't that far. I know everyone discounts him, but he has shown he can spot qb (grossman has found a way to start after leaving chicago, which shows he has the talent if not the mental fortitude to playing at this level. Orton has had some great moments, and generated interest in the league twice this past year) and RB (signed TJ after he was a bust in ari, drafted benson and Forte), even tho he's not a great wr scout. Doesn't matter, as Holmes is pretty good, and they could always sign a FA. Anyway, i have trouble understanding why they would tell Angelo the same thing they told Emery that the HC stays for another year, esp. When he's not a 3-4 guy..

Henry, I've often wondered how much of the failure was Jerry Angelo's and how much was Lovie's. Angelo wasn't the worst GM. As you pointed out, he did sometimes acquire good players, but IMHO, what got him over time was that he brought in too many "mediocre" players to go along with the decent ones he had. And he seemed to do worse in recent years. The result was a mediocre team, that got worse with time. A 3rd place NFC-N team the last couple years.

He never could get the offense right. Too many draft misses AND some notable FA misses on offense too. I'm sure Lovie compounded the problems too. And some here think he had a lot of influence on the talent woes. Maybe so.

I'm glad they're both gone. If they can do a better job on new teams, hey, I really do wish them both the best.

You make another good point too. Henry, I do believe some people learn from their mistakes and get better. That's why Jerry and Lovie could end up being better than they were with the Bears. Smart people DO learn. Stubborn ones keep repeating their own mistakes from the past.

    Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

I def don't think he's great, and agree that some of his FA moves were baffling, but seeing how he failed with 2 rbs, and was followed up by Emery's failure with Bush, i can't fault him too much there. Of course Bush is better than the other 2, but it seems there was no getting the no.2 guy right. I could honestly see him creating another great team, but i could also see him crashing and burning in a few years. Think he'll get a good team together, finally draft some talent, just to piss us off even more. Also been a jets fan as long as a bears fan, so i won't be too angry, unless he drafts a lot of players for a 3-4 knowing full well he's gonna fire Ryan and Bring in Lovie next year

    Henry-
You think Bush was a failure? I think he is a really good RB. I think our failure with Bush was in how we used him (or didn't)

No, but what i'm saying is, no one criticizes Emery for Bush having about as bad seasons as Barber and Taylor.

Well, I guess I don't see Bush as having had a bad season. I see him not having been used properly. When he played he was productive, IMO. Maybe that's a common belief and so why you don't see any criticism.

So are you saying Emery is mediocre as GM because he had to keep Lovie, KC is in the same boat there GM will already have an HC he can't fire. I don't think it has anything to do with mediocrity its just the way things are done in the NFL today.

Now you are still stuck with a mediocre GM who can't pick a coach or decent players to save his life.

This is brilliant. Reminds me of the old days.....

So glad for George and Emery.

Maybe Jerry can draft another Lance Briggs, Charles Tilman, Alex Brown, Tommy Harris, Tank Johnson, Nathan Vasher, Chris Harris, Daniel Manning, Devin Hebuster (sucks as a WR but the best return man ever), Greg Olsen, Matt Forte, Corey Graham, Earl Bennett, Henry Melton, Lance Louis, DJ Moore (until this year was pretty good), Johnny Knox, Major Write (showing flashes and making big plays), Corey Wooten (getting better and ended Favre's career), Stephen Paea, Chris Conte.

Sure, Angelo was a buster of a first round drafter, but he has hit some good picks in his time here. Over all he was a disaster, as you always will be if you cannot hit a first round pick, but he does have an eye for talent.

Andy Reid is the defacto GM. He will have say in who the new GM is though, so there is a difference I think
