    My Offseason

Ok...I don't usually post much in here, but I've been on the site for quite a while. I know a lot of people are thinking Emery is just gonna go nuts this off-season. But I think that this is a realistic offseason...I know we don't have a lot of money to play with, so I don't see the Bears making a huge splash in FA, but I do believe we go after a starting LT and TE..

FA: Keller TE - NYJ ; Long LT - MIA

Cuts/Let walk: Hester**, K. Davis, Spaeth, Spencer, Hayden, Campbell, Bowman

Resign: McCown, A. Allen, Louis, Melton, G. Hayes, Roach, DJ Moore, Okoye, Urlacher (if price is right)

    Restructure Peppers contract

    Draft:
    1. Ogletree - LB, Georgia
    2. Oday Aboushi - OT, Virginia
    4. Khaled Holmes - C, USC (hopefully he is still here)
    5. Levine Tiololo - TE, Stanford
    6. Josh Boyce - WR, TCU

    Depth Chart

    QB: Cutler, McCown, Blanchard
    RB: Forte, Bush, Allen
    FB: ERod
    TE: Keller, Tiololo, K. Adams
WR: Marshall, Jeffery, Bennett, Weems, Knox, Boyce **(If Knox is healthy, Hester is gone)
OL: Long, Webb, Aboushi, Carimi, Louis, E Williams, J. Brown, Holmes, Garza
DT: Melton, Paea, Okoye, Collins, Toeina
    DE: Peppers, Wooton, McClellin, Izzy
LB: Urlacher, Briggs, Ogletree, Roach, Hayes, Costanzo
CB: Tillman, Jennings, DJ Moore, McManis
S: Wright, Conte, Hardin, Steltz, Walters
    ST: Gould, Podlesh, Mannelly

I know the only player that was added on D was Ogletree. But I don't think we are THAT old on D. We shored up the spot where there's the most concern. Our DL is pretty young, minus Izzy and Peppers. Same with the LBs, minus Briggs and Urlacher...

So, if we go this route, I would think NEXT offseason is when we start looking at DE, CB, and LB early in the draft. This way we can infuse youth on the D next year, in order build up the offense while our D is still playing at a fairly high level..

Be nice...I don't write up these things very often. Just thought I'd share....

I like this mock alot, great post maybe you should speak up more often!

I'm not critiquing just adding my own flavor to the draft

If by taking olgetree your assuming T'eo is gone then I say jones first and the Kansas state guy in 2nd

But what you have works very well I like your thought process alot, just adding my own flavor as another option. And if we get real lucky and can substitute T'eo for olgetree then this is a GOLDEN scenario

Arthur Brown? Isn't he an OLB though? I guess after looking at the talent at each spot, this seemed the best way to go for me.

I really like Jones, but some questions have came up about him being injured..nothing serious though. If we did get him in the first, I would grab an ILB in the 2nd...Nico Johnson from Alabama....Then still try for Holmes in the 4th, but he will possibly be gone by then.

I just want to see 2 OL and an ILB taken with the first 3 picks..

Right on, same with me as far as 1,2,4 need to somehow equal 1ilb 2OL

And I could be wrong about the Kansas state guy I can't remember exactly who I'm thinking of lol

The scenario you painted is a good one. So much depends upon what we can/cannot accomplish in FA and you described it perfectly IMO. There's two "must gets" for Emery in FA.

An LT because we don't draft high enough to get our own.

And a TE because there look to be several good FAs who could be available and vet TEs are relatively inexpensive compared to other positions.

Btw, we aren't in bad shape, to my pleasant surprise, cap space wise. It's estimated that we have about $13.3m right now.

Right...I don't wanna commit cap suicide either. Investing in a good LT is a wise move...and like you said, you can get a solid TE for a reasonable price.

Another reason I grabbed an OT in my mock, is because by drafting a C, it gives us some flexiblity on the line. If Louis isn't ready to go by the start of the season, maybe we move Garza back to G and Holmes can step in at C. Jonathan Scott may be another guy resigned as a swing tackle, because I have a gut feeling that Carimi is gonna get his shot at OG...so yet, another reason for drafting an OT...

I like who to resign and who to let go Moondog. I can see it shaking out something much like that.

I think LT Long is too big of a question mark in terms of money and health. I was thinking Bushrod at LT and getting not only a TE in FA but perhaps a OG or LB with the extra cash. That way would make the draft more flexible. I believe being as fluid as possible in this draft will help address more needs.

It all would depend on gaurenteed money IMO in the case of long

Honestly I think the defense has ONE more year window as a real championship I DO believe BU will come back for one more go, and I think pep, izzy, and Tillman have another elite year left

For that reason I say we go for broke and shoot for the moon to sign long, draft Jones and with some luck (I mean come on after the last 2 years were due) we have a weakness turned strength

I think Garza gets some renewed life for this year back at his real position of gaurd and we can make a run at thing thing and send BU (and hell maybe a few others) out on the top

I also think the D has one more year window left. As far as Long I don't wish to take a gamble if his health is a problem. Carimi and Louis are coming off injuries so I'd go with a more known quantity in LT such as Bushrod. Weather at guard or C Garza is dropping off-he needs to be supplemented by some talent either in FA or the draft. He wore down markedly as the season progressed.

that would be the perfect offseason for us...

Just would prefer a OG in the 2nd over a OT in this case.

Our CB corps is bad this way, take out Knox and bring back Hayden. Problems solved.
