Bears are allowing other teams to interview Toub
Not sure I like this. He is a great coach, but also don't want to hold him back.
Bears open door for Toub to interview for assistant jobs

Getty Images Bears special teams coach Dave Toub is part of the cast of thousands interviewing for the Bears head coaching job.
But it doesn’t take much reading of the tea leaves to think he’s not the leading candidating, since the Bears are letting him look at lateral moves.
Toub interviewed for the Dolphins head coaching job last year, and he’s one of four special teams coaches on the Bears list.
But according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, the Bears have given permission to the Panthers and Chiefs to talk to Toub about assistant coaching jobs, despite Toub’s contract running through 2013.
The Charlotte Observer reported Toub interviewed with Panthers head coach Ron Rivera Wednesday.
One of the top special teams coaches in the business, Toub would be an upgrade for either the Panthers or Chiefs. He has long-standing relationships with both Rivera and Chiefs coach Andy Reid, working with Reid at both the college and pro level.

I don't see anything wrong with this, considering a new HC likely would want to bring in his own ST guy anyways. If he leaves on his own, the team won't owe him the money.

Be pretty dumb move for a new HC, considering that Toub is one of (if not, THE) best ST coach in the league.
But good for Toub, he deserves to move up the ladder and get a shot at HC.
I'm trying//to let go//of maybe//but maybe's just so//very interesting//Oh, what a thing.

Not all that sure he will be that good of ST coach without Lovie giving him everyone and everything he wanted.

I'm glad for his opportunity, but we are going to sorely miss him if he leaves.

Not sure I agree with that, JJ. Toub seemed to make good gunners and coverage men out of almost anything he was handed. We have been in the top 10 in ST rankings almost without fail. I would hate to lose him to a better opportunity since he's still under contract.
I find all this "well, a new HC is going to want to bring in his guy(s) anyway" stuff to be maddeningly stupid. I can see the rationale if you're installing a new offense or making major schematic changes on defense, but why the heck--besides ego--would you want to can one of the NFL's most widely regarded ST coordinators??? Really dumb if that's what ends up happening.

Toub will likely wind up in Carolina with Rivera. They were one of the teams to interview him. Maybe as a coordinator.

This is a good PR/NFL politics move by the Bears. A) Emery is interviewing everyone across the board for HC, and B) our new HC will want new assistants in here himself, and a little reciprocal will help. We're showing the league we're willing to let one of our best, if not the best, assistant coaches interview for another assistant job.

The more I have been thinking about this, Toub was a good as gone when Lovie was fired. Look at the facts.
Toub was the FOURTH special teams coordinator to be interviewed. Should have been the very first STC to get interviewed if he was a serious candidate, which he was and is not. How do I know? If he was, they would not have granted him permission to interview with other teams. That is a giant red flag right there that you are not going to get the HC job and likely are not in the plans for the future.
Good luck in KC Toub.
