I really hope he does. If he can at least be average then we could sign Albert to be LT, draft Jones to be C, leave Louis at RG, and have Carimi, Webb, Scott compete for RT, it could be a decent line next year.

Bingo ^ that is a line for the FUTURE as well, I want to see us nail it down this year similar to this

I think Rchal was very solid. He was emotional and came back the very next morning. They did not really do this right. Another Tice fail. Webb was screwing up consistently and never got sat once. This guy gets sat after the two T's fail, loses it and his season is over. He screwed up, but it was mishandled and he is pretty good.

I am NOT excusing Rachal's temporary anger meltdown, let me say that first. But I completely agree with the above. Tice utterly eff'd that situation up like he did virtually everything on the OL this past year. Rachal replaced Spencer (after he replaced CWill) at LG and was an epic fail the first two games. Chilo got his shot and stabilized the position. He played pretty darn well for a guy new to the team and coming off the bench. Dare I say it, he was our 2nd best interior OLman (after Louis) all year. Way better than Spencer, better than Garza, better than Carimi as a G, better than EWill, and better than Brown (who you couldn't expect much from as a udfa rookie coming in cold). If you guys remember, it was looking then like Emery picked up a hidden gem from the waiver wire who was making the best of a change-of-scenery opportunity.
After the disaster that was the SF game (in which we totally out coached yet again), Tice benches him even though the embarrassing sack fest we gave up was almost exclusively on Webb and Carimi. Rachal threw a shit fit and I can kinda understand it (not saying its right but...). He felt and was singled-out for accountability that Tice hadn't shown to Webb all year and the tackle play was the problem not the LG play. We all know what ensued.
As it is right now, we don't have much at LG. EWill sucks hard so don't even suggest it. Spencer blows and is a goner soon. Brown is a possibility but is ready to start? Garza may be an option if we get Jones in the draft to take over C but we all know he's on his last legs. I'm not averse to giving Rachal a one year, vet minimum "last chance" deal and letting him compete for a roster spot in TC/PS. What's to lose? We need depth there and he has shown he can play the position. If he hasn't got his head straightened out in the offseason or otherwise flops performance-wise, then we just cut him.

I question Rachal's attitude when he walks away like that. Yeah he was pissed and maybe he had a right to be but that's NOT something a pro does if he expects to stick around. I'd be surprised if the re-signed him.
I agree with all of these.
I would Firstly add that Rachal was drafted by the 49ers. I would have expected Him to have is worst game against those who know him best. Secondly, we already have seen how therapy can help a troubled player to shed the mental problems that hold him back. Add in a coaching change and it may be possible to give Rachal a chance. I personally, would like to see that happen. That being said, the way this was handled both in the media and by the team, does make a re-singing unlikely.

I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Yeah I'm for looking at all options and utilizing all available resources to redeem the OL. Just want to put together the best 8 or 9 man roster we can from top to bottom since we know injuries can and do happen. We aren't in a position to turn up our noses just because some guy (who did show something) had some "issues". Heck, a lot of people last year or two poo-poo'd the idea of getting Marshall because he was a "head case" with a history of serious behavioral problems.
As of this moment our G situation is ugly. Our best guy just had ACL surgery. A former G, currently playing C, is at the end of his career. Another G sucked and is a goner in FA. Another, EWill, well...gimme a break, he's upgradeable easily. That leaves us with Brown, who definitely has promise I agree, but is unproven. Since we can't get unlimited new FAs or draftees, what's the downside to giving Rachal a chance to stick for vet depth? No one else is going to sign the guy so he'd come cheap on a one year vet minimum deal. If he can't get his shit together mentally or doesn't earn it physically, just cut him in preseason and nothing is lost.
