Future of Hester
What so you think happens?
Cut? I don't know the rules/pentaly against the cap for doing this
"Give away" trade- think any teams would bite on a late round cap dump move?
Solely a returner? A high price to pay for a return specialist
Limited wr?- ehh we've been here
Retire?- I don't see this one I think it was an empty threat...he wants that record being so close I think he'll give it a few more goes
I think we need to dump his cap so we can have the means to make a run at a QUALITY LT.

Jay wants him back but I can't imagine our next HC will use him as a receiver. I would try to find a dumb GM and trade him along with guys we don't need anymore (Davis, Toeaina) for a really low pick. If that's not possible, cut him. He might be the greatest returner of all time but now he's become useless for our offense.
I guess it's time to move on.

I think he is either gone one way or another or at least sees his role dramatically reduced if he stays. I find it hard to justify keeping both him and Weems as "WRs" on the depth chart when they both are pretty much pure STers only. And Weems covers as well as returns while Hester only does the latter. Lets draft a young speed WR guy in the late draft to develop and be a backup return option (Knox equivalent). That guy and maybe Joe Anderson/Golden can vie for 4th and 5th on the WR depth chart.
Spotrac lists his 2013 cap hit at $2.86 million with 750k of that amortized signing bonus the Bears are on the hook for "dead cap" wise. So losing him should save a little over 2 mill if my figures are accurate.

take whatever you can get. Get nothing, cut him.
Roster Spot and Cap Space over what Hester may could do as of now

Agree completely and I'm not so sure Jay really wants him back. He was probably just saying something nice when asked publicly about a teammate rather than throwing him under the bus, as he should. He wasn't going to say the real truth which is: "Hester sucks as a WR and I have little confidence in throwing him the ball."

Yeah, I think that would be really bad pr for Jay. ^^

Unless Toub comes back AND Hester had some sort of injury last season it's time to cut bait.

I know I'll be in the minority thinking this way, but I say bring him back as a return-man ONLY & let him finish his career as a Bear.

Well we aren't gonna save a huge amount of cap space if we cut him (about $2.1 mil) but if you take thaty into consideration with others with similar cap numbers who haven't been productive then it adds up.

So you have to ask what would a team give for a future HOF return specialist and marginal WR who's gonna cost them about $2.1 mil in salary and cap.
This one may depend entirely on who the new HC is and whether or not he sees any value in him beyond his return skills. One of the problems is that even if he does we all know that the more they use him in any other capacity the more those skills decline.
This one is tough to call. He's great weapon if we can find a way to get him loaded, cocked and fired again.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I've debated this but if the 2 mil we free up makes or break hitting a LT in FA then ya gota do what's best for the team
I wish we could restructure for a very low salary and all incentive based pay, but I don't think that'll happen
