Yes, I heard that too. I hope the preliminary reports are accurate and that he's ok whether or not he's still in the running for the job. This week should give us a lot of insight as to what direction emery is leaning since there's only 3 realistic candidates I know of that are still active in the playoffs.

I'm more reading this as 2 finalists from the first group of interviewees. Then there will be a first round of interviews with a second group, mostly guys in the playoffs. Then they get broken down to one or two for second interviews, then finals with whoever makes it that far.

Could be, but this second round fits with his target date of Jan 18

personally, i like clements and carmichael. their offensive pedigrees are impressive.
A lot of us have our personal favorites for one reason or another. I don't pretend to know who is the "most perfect fit". My ideal guy--whatever his name turns out to be--would be...
...an O-minded coordinator with real NFL experience
...willing to leave much of the D/ST staff and scheme generally intact
...someone with a record of developing QBs and improving the passing attack
It's no secret that O is our problem and the passing game is particularly so.

This is what's confusing. If his target hire date was the driving factor in the selection, why even reach out to candidates who are in the playoffs? He doesn't come across to me as someone who would eliminate a potential hire for HC simply because the can't start 19 Jan. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think he's reached his finalists yet.

No I was just replying to what Sulleymom posted. McCoy is my number one choice and has been all along. I'd be okay with Arians though.

I've said this in other threads, but my endorsement as a fan goes to Rick Dennison. The problem with having guys like Tom Clements and Pete Carmichael is that neither one knows the first thing about coaching a good running attack. In their offenses, the pass is 90% of the offense, and I just don't like offenses like the run and shoot that New Orleans operates on. Dennison has coached a quarterback who has passed for over 4,000 yards before as well as a powerful running attack spearheaded by one of the two or three most complete backs in the league. I want an offense with balance, not one that is pass-heavy. I'd rather have an offense in which the running game is featured than one where the passing game is instead. Dennison's offense would give the Bears that option. Forte would put up monster numbers, and our offensive line might actually respond better to a zone blocking scheme.
No matter what, I trust Emery will make the right decision. Clements and Carmichael are excellent coaches, and though I'd rather have Dennison, I think I could handle either of them as well.

I'm guessing it'll be next weekend that it's narrowed down to 2 finalists, or at the earliest, Thursday or Friday. Emery still has a bunch of interviews lined up...Arians, Clements, Dennison and I'm sure I'm missing a couple.
