Your three finalists for Chicago Bears Head Coach are...

My gut feeling is that Emery is probably 90% decided on who he's going to hire, but is going through the "due diligence" part of the process now. Emery is touted as being an extremely methodical and meticulous grinder, and we're seeing that play out in the coaching search. One good side benefit from grinding through this process, is that Emery is getting some exceptional input on the Bears from some of the brightest up-and-coming NFL coordinators - most of whom will be HC's sooner rather than later. I think some of these guys he's talking too are the "best and brightest" in the NFL.....just exceptional football minds. That's not the main purpose of the search, but rather a nice side benefit for Emery.

But I'll bet Emery knows right now who "The Guy" is. He'll pull the trigger when the process ends. We just have to wait it all out.

When I look over the best of the candidates (not all of them, but the best) I believe we are looking at the future of the NFL coaching-wise. These will ultimately be the new crop of great coaches (not all of them, but some). The old guard will be retiring one-by-one over the years ahead. These will be the new guys. I'm hoping we catch a great guy on his way up - and can keep him here for a long time. Like a future Belechick or Landry. I realize that's probably a pipe dream, but I'm hoping :smile:

I do like the fact that Emery is a "detail person" and a grinder. Thoughtful. I don't think he'll drag this out, but will take the necessary time to get it right.

I believe the Chicago Bears opening is the primo #1 HC opportunity. Also, as MP mentioned, with the playoffs going on right now, it's going to have an impact upon the timeline with some candidates.

I think that Saturday or Sunday (not both) is the day that the Broncs are allowing other teams to interview McCoy, if I recall correctly....

I believe that you are allowed to interview candidates on the weekend of their bye week, if they have one. And that teams can't turn down a request to interview one of their own if it is for a promotion in rank type of position. So, "permission is granted" seemingly as a courtesy or formality in those scenarios. A team CAN refuse permission if the interview is for a lateral move, not an elevation from say coordinator to HC. I don't know what the rules are for actually putting pen to paper. Obviously a candidate can't officially assume new responsibilities until his current team is eliminated for the season, but can an agreement be inked and announced in advance? Anyone know?

Yeah, hard to mark any real frontrunners without everyone getting their crack at an interview. Though, I suppose it's easy for the higher ups to go into the process with a narrowed list and a favorite on top based on resume, I kind of doubt anyone with real insight would leak that unless they are very serious about him not taking another job before they get to him.
